so this is a very mary sue novel and basically follows along with our mc who helps complete tasks set by animals and resolving crimes. there is an element of fantasy and cultivation in this novel so taoist themes will make an appearance . this book is also HEAVILY patriotic and does not represent my views — the author heavily endorses china and there are a few stray jabs toward the us and post world war II hatred directed at the japanese so if that bothers you, i’d recommend you tread lightly. i will add a trigger warning when there is hate towards any other country but just a heads up bc most modern chinese novels feature some aspect of extremely strong nationalism ^^ there is also a romantic subplot but that appears rather late in the story as well
