ICHITA Ch 7 — The Little Crybaby in the Trash Can

Ling Yue: “I think I heard someone calling for help?”

Ya Ya shook her head: “I didn’t hear anything, did the owner mishear?”

Ling Yue frowned, the voice becoming clearer: “Wuwuwu I don’t want to die… someone come save me…”

Weak like a flickering candle in the wind, barely hanging on, it was evident that the voice’s owner was in a bad state, teetering on the edge of despair, perhaps just clinging to life by sheer will.

At that moment, Ling Yue felt a chill run down her back—kidnapping? Imprisonment?

Originally planning to buy a car and look at houses, Ling Yue’s thoughts shifted instantly; the voice was too tragic. She tried to search, but the streets were filled with glamorous people just passing by. Where could they be?

Ling Yue: “I think I heard someone calling for help?”

Ya Ya shook her head: “I didn’t hear anything, did the owner1 mishear?”

Tap tap tap—

A small curly-haired brown teddy actively pulled its owner, Little Cui, along, while the female owner struggled to keep up, her high heels clacking sharply against the concrete, producing a crisp tap-tap sound.

High heels, as beautiful as they look, are painfully uncomfortable to wear. A slight increase in pace could rub the skin raw. And the little teddy’s owner pursued a sexy look, with heels that were five centimetres high.

In just a few seconds, the female owner couldn’t help but plead: “Mei Mei, slow down, Mommy can’t keep up! Slow down, Mei Mei.”

The little teddy, terrified, exclaimed: “Ah ah ah, don’t slow down! I’m about to be scared to death, where on earth is this place!”

“What is that noise? Help, help!”

“Wuwuwu, we need to get out of here quickly, there seems to be a strange sound, it’s scaring the dog to death!” Even some large dogs, like Alaskans, tucked their tails and ran away.

Ling Yue then noticed that many pets on the street were rushing by, as if frightened by something, not daring to stop.

She heard the cries for help growing weaker, the voice’s owner seemingly aware that death was imminent, yet even so, only softly complained with a sob: “Help me… I really want to live… I’ll eat less… please don’t throw me away, wuwuwu…”

Ling Yue thought it was so foolish.

If it were the old Ling Yue, she might truly feel helpless, but now, with the help of Ya Ya and the others, Ling Yue effectively had countless bright eyes and sharp ears.

“I heard it Master, it’s not far from here.” The little crow led her out of the commercial street. Who would have known that just a wall away, there would be such a shabby and dirty alley? Ling Yue could still hear the bustling voices from outside the wall, but here—

Several large green trash cans stood crookedly in the corner, flies buzzing around the garbage, and the ground was covered in a stench-filled sewage, almost forming a deep green ‘stream.’

It was enough to make one hesitate and keep their distance!

Ling Yue stopped, the most agile crow flapping its wings: “It stinks, but I heard it, the voice is right here, Master.”

Ling Yue: “I heard it too.”

“Is anyone there?” She tried to call out, methodically putting on a mask, the faint cries for help suddenly paused, and as if infused with endless energy: “Help me, help me, help me! I don’t want to die, wuwuwu…”

The trash can emitted a series of loud banging sounds, making one’s teeth ache, and was buried under heaps of garbage, making it impossible to see anything. The force of the sound echoed in the secluded alley, like a fierce beast hiding within!

Ling Yue was not a reckless fool; when she was rescuing someone from the zoo, she had a detailed plan instead of charging in blindly like a fool.

“Ya Ya, in a moment, I will kick over the trash can, you and the little sisters keep an eye on it from above, if anything seems off, shout out to me.”

She picked up a nearby iron rod and kicked it over; the trash can crashed down with a loud bang, spilling out heaps of various garbage, the smell of rotting waste that had fermented for who knows how long surged forth, comparable to a gas bomb!

Ling Yue couldn’t help but be momentarily stunned.

Her eyes reddened, nearly crying from the stench!

At that moment, something caught her attention.

It was a shabby burlap sack, tightly bound with wide tape, more securely than a delivery boy would do, wrapped tightly and harshly! One could only see that whatever was inside was quite large, reaching up to her knees; and considering Ling Yue was over 1.7 meters tall, she was quite tall.

A corner of the gray sack had a tear, which was the source of the cries for help; it turned out to be—a light yellowish-black dog’s mouth!

Ya Ya could see it more clearly from above: “Master, it looks like there’s a dog inside!” Even it felt pity for the creature, which seemed quite large but was wrapped in a sack and thrown in the trash can, not even qualifying to be a stray dog.

Ling Yue lowered her gaze; if she hadn’t discovered it, it would die. If not today, then tomorrow.

Perhaps having finally touched the ground, the big dog’s condition improved slightly, panting heavily, this was its way of communicating with the outside world.

From the jagged gap, it was clear that this should have been sealed, but it had gnawed out a hole with its teeth.

“What a tenacious and lucky dog.”

She didn’t approach immediately; instead, she took out a few bills and sent Ya Ya to a nearby convenience store to buy something.

Ling Yue squatted in front of the dog: “What’s your name? Are you hungry? Do you want some water? But you’ll have to wait a bit; Ya Ya went to buy food.”

The dog was shocked: “You can understand me? Wuwuwu, my name is Stupid Dog, I don’t bite people.”

Whap whap—

That was the sound of its tail wagging against the burlap sack, the adrenaline of surviving the ordeal making the big dog overly excited.

Ling Yue frowned, seeing it suddenly curl up again, clearly having a psychological shadow, yet still foolishly choosing to trust her. Ling Yue sighed and rubbed the dog’s head, or rather, the spot where its head should be?

Silly Dog froze for a moment, then began to whimper, like a kettle that had just finished boiling: “Wuwuwu, thank you for saving me, can you be my master? I eat very little, I’m super strong, I can pull a cart for you like Tian Tian, I… I’m very easy to take care of.”

“Master? Master?”

Ling Yue held a pair of scissors: “Stay still, I’ll help you cut open the sack.”

The king of beasts in the zoo had been brought down before; Ling Yue wouldn’t be afraid of this, and besides, the silly dog wouldn’t resist.

She carefully cut along the sack with the scissors where the tape was sealed tightly. In the summer heat, it was almost like a non-breathable little suit of armour. Not to mention a dog, even a person would suffocate in this.

How could there be such a malicious person!

Even if the dog had been abandoned, there was no need to wrap it up like this, deliberately discarding it in a remote, deserted dumpster, just a wall away from a bustling avenue.

The dog asked her, “Did Master hear my cries for help? Master is amazing! I’ve been calling for days, and not a single one of them wanted to pay me any attention.”

Ling Yue’s heart skipped a beat. Silly dog, those footsteps you heard, although close, were actually separated by a wall. Humans don’t have the same keen senses as dogs; even if they heard a strange sound occasionally, they wouldn’t go to great lengths to investigate.

What did the previous owner want to do by leaving it here? Give it hope and then let it despair? The silly dog wasn’t silly at all; in fact, it was quite clever, otherwise, it wouldn’t have waited for Ling Yue to come.

Before long, a majestic large dog appeared before her.

It turned out to be a handsome and tall German Shepherd!

With a light yellowish-black mouth, erect ears, and a level shoulder, its hind legs slightly bent—these were typical characteristics of a German Shepherd.

Ling Yue looked in shock at the dog that had regained its light. Its fur was already damp with sweat, its four legs thin to the point of being unrecognisable, and a thin layer of skin covered its clearly visible ribs. Without experience, one might mistake it for a Greyhound or a Whippet.

Because it was just too thin.

Even a German Shepherd had to be abandoned? And in such a cruel manner! Ling Yue held back her anger: “I’ll take you to the hospital for a check-up.

The dog that had been whining like a kettle perked up its ears. Its light brown eyes were like a clear spring, and it excitedly stuck out its tongue, ready to leap forward, but suddenly stopped. Under Ling Yue’s doubtful gaze, the dog curled its tail: “I, I’m so dirty.”

Ling Yue replied, “It’s okay, it’ll be fine soon. I’ll take you to the pet hospital for a check-up and a bath.”

The dog tilted its head, the kettle-like whines growing louder. Its master was rubbing its head and ears, which felt so comfortable.

Beijing Pet Hospital.

When Ling Yue led the German Shepherd in, it startled the waiting customers, who couldn’t help but whisper, “How could this dog be so thin? This is too tragic; it looks filthy, like it just crawled out of a trash can.”

“Why did you only come to the hospital now?”

In an instant, all the customers in the waiting room turned their attention to Ling Yue.

The doctor came in, took a glance, and instantly understood the situation in the room. He instructed the nurse: “Let’s check the dog first.”

The doctor looked at Ling Yue and said directly, “This should be a stray dog you picked up, right? It seems to be in decent condition. You have a kind heart to save it.”

Ling Yue nodded, and the customers looked at her in surprise. Suddenly, a few barks broke the awkward atmosphere in the room.

“Woof woof woof!”

The large dog stood up, tail tucked, facing the nurse. It wanted to protect its master: “Don’t come over! No one can bully this stinky dog’s master!”

Ling Yue froze for a moment, looking down at the dog. With its tail tucked, it was clearly scared by the smell in the air, but it still bravely jumped out to protect her.

Ling Yue patted its head: “Good dog.”

With just one gesture, she made the German Shepherd lower its guard.

The doctor conducted a thorough examination of the German Shepherd.

Logically, the dog might have contracted some serious illness, which would explain why its owner abandoned it, but after the examination, the doctor informed her that aside from malnutrition and some parasites, the German Shepherd was actually very healthy, with no injuries or illnesses.

After a bath, the newly groomed dog was brought out by the nurse. Its dry fur was cut short, and while its body was still weak, it looked particularly spirited, especially when it saw its master, its eyes shining brightly.

“Is Master here to take the stinky dog home?”

Yes.

Ling Yue smiled as she took the leash. She was planning to open a pet shop, so raising a dog wouldn’t be a problem. However, Ya Ya on her shoulder seemed a bit unhappy and whispered, “Master, look at this stinky dog; it’s so big, and it looks quite old. You should send it off for adoption quickly! Otherwise, after a few years, it’ll only make Master sad.”

Ling Yue rubbed the dog’s ears: “It does look quite big, but its ears are so soft; it shouldn’t be that old, right?”

The German Shepherd stood frozen in place.

The doctor overheard this and chuckled, saying, “It’s only a few months old, still a juvenile!”

As he spoke, he skilfully opened the German Shepherd’s mouth: “Look, its teeth aren’t even fully grown yet.”

The German Shepherd let out a cry, startling the doctor.

“Wuwuwu, I’m still a baby! Master, don’t abandon me, wuwuwu…”

Still a little crybaby.

Ling Yue: “…”

Such a clingy little whiner. But at the same time, it was also so cute.

She suddenly had a thought and pulled up the big black dog’s attribute panel.

[Name: Kunming Wolfdog]

[Gender: Male]

[Personality: Loyal, brave, intelligent, resilient]

[Age: Four months and ten days]

[Skills: Sense of smell surpassing 99.9% of its peers, innate police dog combat skills]

[Wish: ???]

Why was the wish section a question mark?

Ling Yue couldn’t figure it out and didn’t dwell on it. Her gaze fell on the big black dog. She felt even angrier at the previous owner who abandoned it. How could they bear to let such a good dog suffer?

The German Shepherd, now renamed to Big Black, followed her obediently. The doctor prescribed internal and external deworming medication and gave some advice: “The dog is underdeveloped, but fortunately, it has a good foundation. You can buy more meat—pork, chicken, and preferably beef. The better and fresher, the better, of course, within your means. But with a good diet, this young fellow will catch up later. Ah, it’s still a Kunming Wolfdog, what a good dog!”

kunming wolfdog

Ling Yue was not surprised as she had recognised it straight away.2

However, as if it were a reflex, Big Black was now in a state of panic: “Master, I don’t eat, I don’t eat meat! I’m fine with dog food, or even steamed buns!”

Ling Yue sensed something strange about it in that moment.

After leaving the hospital, she remained silent, and Big Black grew increasingly anxious, finally saying, “Master, I can pick up trash, I can eat garbage to survive!”

For the first time, Ling Yue cursed, “Damn it, what did the previous owner do to you!”

Finally, she learned the truth from Big Black: it was purchased by the previous owner at a pet store, who initially bought it to raise a foreign dog. Little did they know that Big Black would grow larger and less adorable, eating a lot more. Later, they reluctantly accepted it thinking it was a German Shepherd.

But later tests revealed it was actually a domestic Kunming Wolfdog, not a foreign breed at all. In a fit of anger, the owner tied it up and threw it in the trash.

Before leaving, the last thing he said was, “You mixed breed, you’ve driven me insane! I wasted several hundred bucks on you!”

“What a jerk!” Ling Yue was so angry her hands were shaking.

The Kunming Wolfdog is a domestic breed; although it resembles the German Shepherd, the two dogs are completely different.

Kunming Wolfdogs are generally used for criminal investigation and bomb disposal; they are very intelligent and often serve as police dogs. The German Shepherd, on the other hand, is a close relative of the German Shepherd breed, has genetic defects, and is actually gentle in nature. But in Ling Yue’s eyes, she believed the Kunming Wolfdog cultivated by her country was better than the German Shepherd!

She gave Big Black a science lesson, and the little crybaby was so moved, looking at his delicate and beautiful master, he secretly made a firm resolution.

In an instant, Ling Yue noticed a change in the wish list.

Big Black looked at her with his wet eyes: “Master, I want to be a police dog too, Big Black will protect you!”

[ Ding! Completed Big Black’s wish, reward obtained: Dog’s sense of smell, complete version of top-level combat skills! ]

The system emitted a mechanical sound, and Ling Yue looked at the wish section on Big Black’s panel, which had changed to “police dog.” She smiled and rubbed Big Black’s ears: “Alright, I’ll wait for you to protect me in the future.”

“And me, and me!” Ya Ya puffed out her chest and raised her head, flapping her wings loudly: “In the airspace of the eastern city, I, Ya Ya, will look out for my master!”

Ling Yue clicked to accept the reward.

Suddenly, as if someone had hit her on the head, her expression stiffened as various complex scents flooded her nostrils. It took her a moment to adapt, with this just being the first level of smell, with combat skills being proficient.

Big Black’s wish was a growth task; now, with Ling Yue’s encouragement, it had developed a firm and brave heart.

Once Big Black became a police dog and obtained a position, all rewards would be fully distributed.

Meanwhile, Ling Yue saw the attribute panel in front of her; it was no longer Big Black’s but her own!

the way chinese authors always manage to slip in some good old chinese patriotism in their novels is actually a bit insane to me GSDFHLDSFKJF how did they make smth abt dogs pro china ???

ne ways, my fav breed is a german shepherd — mainly bc my mum had a german shepherd when she was little and the photos of him with her are so ORZ HIS NAME WAS HAPPY — HOW CUTE QAQ

also, do you guys prefer me to translate the pets’ names directly or leave them as the chinese pinyin?? personally i prefer da hei over big black but i thought maybe it’d be nice for you guys to understand what the name means ??? it just feels awkward bc i can’t think of anyone naming someone big black in english — da hei (big black) and da huang (big yellow) is quite a common dog name in china, and in chinese, people often add on xiao/da (small/big) in front of people’s names. the closest equivalent i can think of for a dog’s name is maybe blackie ??? please let me know — if you prefer it to be in pinyin i’ll edit this chapter later on!!

i’ll try and update this twice every week though — most probably on sunday at around 10pm aest

  1. i’ll be switching between owner and master just for ease of reading. in reality it’s more like owner in terms of connotation but master reads better when used as a title ↩︎
  2. the chinese name for german shepherd 黑背 is also used in the name kunming wolfdog 昆明黑背 — literally translated, it’s kunming german shepherd. hence why it makes sense why ling yue knows what breed it is despite the story constantly referencing it as a german shepherd instead of kunming wolfdog ↩︎

ICHITA Ch 6 — A Strange Cry For Help in the Alley

Zhao Lin sighed helplessly.

He knew his wife didn’t believe him. After all, he hadn’t found any leads when he had invited Lin Shaoze, the captain of the criminal police team, and his wife had long since given up hope on this matter.

Now, suddenly, there was a twist in the plot, and it was from a little girl. He couldn’t blame her; if it weren’t for Zhao Lin’s personal experience with the previous gem theft case, he wouldn’t believe it either.

All the way, he kept reminding her not to say anything that might offend anyone.

His wife looked at him as if he were a fool: “Who do you think I am? I’m just worried you’ll be fooled, you big blockhead!”

In her words, the suave Zhao Lin in the eyes of others had become a big blockhead.

Zhao Lin muttered in grievance, but a smile appeared on his face. He understood what his wife meant; he was well aware.

Here, it must be mentioned that Zhao Lin’s wife was the young lady of Auspicious Dragon Group. Marrying him, a poor boy with nothing, was considered a downward move. If it weren’t for her, any other branch manager who had such an incident happen under them would have been fired long ago.

However, him becoming a branch manager wasn’t solely due to nepotism; most of it was based on personal ability. Auspicious Dragon Group had branches all over the country, and only the one under Zhao Lin’s management had profits that crushed the other branches with its outstanding performance, thus frequently receiving praise from the old man.

So this time, when he ran into trouble, many people were secretly delighted.
Zhao Lin took his wife’s hand: “Don’t worry, if I get fooled, I’ll buy you that jade bracelet. Didn’t you particularly like that one?”

His wife glared at him playfully and suddenly realised: “Oh, so now you dare to save private money behind my back?!”

A jade bracelet worth over a million was not something you could afford without private money!

At eight in the morning, given the traffic situation in the capital, only office workers and elderly people out for morning exercises were up, let alone customers for their jewellery store.

An employee, Little Li, quietly yawned; it wasn’t time yet. She leaned against the counter, still half-asleep, when suddenly her waist hurt, and before she could question her colleague, she saw her frantically signalling her.

“Manager, manager!”

Little Li was completely startled awake; fortunately, Zhao Lin was preoccupied with the store’s treasures and didn’t notice at all.

Looking at the empty store, Zhao Lin sighed; it was all due to these few matters.

The next moment, he collected his thoughts and called for the best tea leaves, then suddenly stopped and asked Little Li: “What do girls your age like to eat and drink?”

At eight-thirty in the morning, Ling Yue got off the bus, feeling almost like a ghost. The crow circling above her complained, “Ew, what a strong smell!”

Ling Yue nodded in deep agreement, wondering who had eaten chive buns; in the cramped space. The smell had fermented to the point of being explosive.

She now had five hundred thousand yuan; should she buy a car first? It would be convenient for whatever she wanted to do in the future.

As for the remaining money, Ling Yue had already made plans to open a pet store; she would never waste her talent.

Of course, the most important thing now was to deliver the items.

Who would have thought that jewellery worth eight million dollars would be so lightly carried in her hand?”

Auspicious Dragon Jewellery Store was located in the city centre, surrounded by various luxury stores. The store occupied over a hundred square meters, and because it displayed the store’s treasures year-round, with its high aesthetic appeal and endorsements from historical figures, it had become a popular check-in spot for many internet celebrities.

The citizens had already grown accustomed to it.

When Ling Yue entered, the staff initially thought she was an internet celebrity there to check in, after all, just relying on her face was enough to overshadow others. But what was that? A bird standing on her shoulder? Was it real?

Ya Ya gazed in fascination at the sparkling interior of the store, suddenly noticing the attention directed at her and turned her head.

“It, it’s alive!”

Ling Yue had anticipated this scene: “This is my pet.”

As she extended her finger, Ya Ya obediently rubbed against her fingertip, looking incredibly well-behaved.

Who would have thought someone would keep a crow as a pet? The staff was amazed and was about to attend to her.

Ling Yue placed her handbag on the counter and directly asked, “Is Manager Zhao here?”

The staff was taken aback: “Manager Zhao?”

Ling Yue didn’t want to elaborate: “Zhao Lin. I have an appointment to meet him.”

As soon as she finished speaking, another male voice suddenly rang out in the room, filled with malice: “Ling Yue?”

Ling Yue looked over to see a tall, barely handsome enough, sunny-looking man, staring at her. Upon recognising her, he smiled and said, “So it’s really you. I heard you haven’t been doing well lately; after all, a girl like you has fallen so far as to working at a zoo. I remember you used to be the top of our major.”

His tone was sarcastic, full of schadenfreude.

No matter, Ling Yue was even more sarcastic than him. She frowned and pretended to be confused: “Who are you? Sorry, with hundreds of students in our major, I really can’t remember.”

The man’s face twisted in anger: “I’m Qin Junxin!”

Having spent so long just for her not to remember who he was, he felt humiliated and embarrassed, especially with so many people watching. Qin Junxin became even more furious.

Ling Yue had already shifted her gaze away; looking at such a person was a waste of her eyes.

She would never forget the person who made her this way, the culprit behind her current situation, a narrow-minded and disgusting man!

Perhaps at first she didn’t care, but after such an incident, how could she not be angry? Ling Yue had long memorised the face of that man from her friend Qiao Qiao, and the same went for that privileged little princess. Bad people are not constrained by one single gender.

As for Ya Ya, she was originally amazed by the sparkling jewellery all over the room, but when she turned around and saw a stinky man staring at her friend, she said fiercely, “If he dares to bully Yue Yue, I’ll poop on him! Let him have a taste of his own medicine!”

Ling Yue almost couldn’t hold back her laughter.

However, Qin Junxin did not intend to let it go. The goddess he once pursued like a lapdog had now turned into this. After being with his girlfriend, he was dressed in all the designer clothes she had given him, and his discerning eye had improved significantly; he could tell at a glance that Ling Yue’s outfit was all from street vendors. Yet, with her good looks, even ordinary clothes could exude a high-end quality.

It was as if she was still that lofty goddess from school.

Now that they were out of school, what was she pretending for!

A hint of malice spilled from the man’s eyes, and his sticky gaze made Ling Yue feel disgusted. She then heard him say, “What is fellow classmate Ling planning to buy? But I heard your salary at the zoo is less than three thousand. If you can’t afford it, I can give you one? But…”

As he spoke, he leaned in, casually pointing at a silver bracelet that cost less than five thousand, “This one looks pretty good. Take it out for me.”

The shop assistant almost couldn’t help but roll her eyes. This guy had been in the store for over twenty minutes, browsing through all the mid-range counters, not even daring to look at the higher-end ones.

The reason he dared to say such things was that the shop assistant had seen countless customers; no matter how well Qin Junxin tried to hide it, she could see through him. He either didn’t have much money or was just extremely stingy!

After all, a suitor who wouldn’t even spend five thousand on a goddess of this level!

If she had the looks of this young lady, she wouldn’t even bother to acknowledge him after those few words.

Ling Yue was also amused by his performance, lightly dodging him and turning to the shop assistant, “Has Manager Zhao not come out yet?”

“What Manager Zhao?” Qin Junxin, who was being shameless, instantly became furious upon hearing this: “What’s your relationship with that Zhao Manager? I get it, are you two—”

Ling Yue had never seen someone like him; she had given him face, and now her hands itched!

She looked weak, but in reality, she had practiced martial arts since childhood.

Although her mother never told her the name of the style, she said it was passed down from her father’s side. As she grew up and became more beautiful, there was a time in high school when a group of thugs cornered her in an alley, and she fought five of them alone and managed to escape.

“Miss Ling, I’ve come late.” Zhao Lin rushed out, sweating profusely from the short distance he had run, regretting not waiting outside, which led to this situation where he couldn’t even intervene in time.

His humble attitude made Qin Junxin even more suspicious, his face turning ashen, looking as if he had been cuckolded, and he questioned, “What’s your relationship with her?”

Manager Zhao seemed to have just noticed him: “Little Li, please attend to this customer.”

Qin Junxin had previously been treated like royalty while shopping for luxury goods with his girlfriend, feeling superior, but now even a mere manager dared to ignore him!

“What Little Li? I want you to come over; I want to buy a bracelet. This one, this one… and this one, introduce them to me properly.”

Qin Junxin pointed at a pile of bracelets, took out his VIP card, and made it clear he wanted to make things difficult: “Is this card enough to qualify?” His girlfriend was a VIP customer at the store; did these people dare to offend him?

Manager Zhao had never heard of such a petty tactic before; did they think this was a club? He held back his laughter, thinking—what right did a kept boy have to insult Miss Ling!

Their Auspicious Dragon Group and the people behind him had no overlapping territory; they were of the same scale, and even a bit larger, Zhao Lin was not intimidated and made a phone call.

Before long, Qin Junxin’s phone rang.

His girlfriend started cursing him: “You idiot, how dare you? You’re really something! Why don’t you have the chairman of Auspicious Dragon Group introduce you, and get your ass back here!”

Qin Junxin couldn’t believe it; his usually gentle and obedient girlfriend was now as furious as a fire-breathing dragon. He instinctively wanted to retort but suddenly realised, his face pale, he explained, “Wan Wan, I didn’t mean it; I just wanted to buy you a gift. Didn’t you like that diamond necklace before?”

As he spoke, his heart was bleeding; he had sold his looks to get over a hundred thousand, and now he was throwing half of it away.

“Buy it and get back here!”

The call was abruptly hung up, leaving Qin Junxin embarrassed.

“Turning around, he found that the previously arrogant Manager Zhao was now incredibly humble towards Ling Yue, with a makeshift table set up displaying various milk teas and desserts, beautifully packaged and looking exquisite, clearly worth a lot.

Zhao Lin said, “It’s still early, Miss Ling, you haven’t had breakfast yet, right? I ordered breakfast; you can eat first, and then we’ll talk.”

Before Ling Yue could respond, Qin Junxin, who was deeply provoked, was furious to the point of spitting blood. He wanted to see what capabilities the impoverished Ling Yue had!

What capabilities?

When Ling Yue opened the box, revealing the cleanly polished butterfly diamond necklace inside, everyone was deeply amazed by its dazzling brilliance.

“Isn’t, isn’t this our store’s treasure!” Little Li exclaimed in shock, covering her mouth, staring at the scene in disbelief.

Zhao Lin had long been unable to look away, murmuring, “It’s, it’s the bow knot diamond necklace.”

Madam Zhao, who was standing by, also felt relieved. For Ling Yue, who had found it, she no longer looked down on her but instead felt grateful from the bottom of her heart.

Qin Junxin was slightly taken aback: “What treasure? It must be fake! Where would a poor person like you get jewellery? Did you steal it?”

“Young man, you need to provide evidence when you speak!” Zhao Lin’s anger flared: “This Miss Ling is my benefactor; the item in her hand is precisely our Auspicious Dragon’s lost treasure, the bow knot diamond necklace of the second emperor of the Xue Empire.”

He opened the embedded base, and under everyone’s gaze, a row of intricate and luxurious Russian engravings appeared before them: “This is the signature of the most renowned jewellery design master from the Xue Empire in the last century, it cannot possibly be fake.”

“Security!” Without her husband needing to speak, Mrs. Zhao said coldly, “Throw him out for me. Our Auspicious Dragon Jewellery does not welcome such guests.”

Several burly security personnel directly grabbed him in front of the crowd and tossed him out like garbage, leaving him dumped at the door. Many live-streaming influencers were startled at first, then excitedly exclaimed, “Wow, guys, it looks like there’s a show to watch!”

Qin Junxin’s face turned red with anger as he looked inside. That wealthy lady was chatting with Ling Yue, her attitude was filled with kindness, completely different from how she treated him.

He angrily cursed, “Bitch! A bunch of bitches—”

His voice abruptly stopped.

A crow circled above his head, its tail feathers twitching, and suddenly cawed loudly, dropping a lump of bird droppings right into his mouth.

The onlookers were disgusted: “Ew~ how gross is this guy!”

“Huh? What is that? Looks like it’s flying over? A dark cloud?”

“Shit, everyone, get out of the way, it’s an air raid!”

The crowd scattered in a flurry, and the disgusted Qin Junxin was still puzzled.

Not far away, a mass of ‘dark clouds’ was swiftly approaching. Upon closer inspection, he realised it was a flock of crows. There were so many that they gathered together, resembling a floating dark cloud in mid-air.

Ya Ya and her little sisters shouted commands: “Everyone get ready, attack!”

“Received, not a single bullet will miss!”

“Start the air raid, fire!”

Everyone watched this scene, truly amazed.

This group of crows organized and disciplined formed a surrounding circle, ensuring that every droplet of bird droppings landed on the man until he couldn’t take it anymore and ran away. Someone checked the spot where Qin Junxin had originally stood and exclaimed in surprise, “Shit, the ground is so clean, not a single droplet!”

The crows then called it a day.

Ling Yue watched this scene, her lips twitching.

The crow perched on her shoulder puffed out its chest. If it weren’t for the presence of outsiders, it would definitely be thumping its chest proudly: “How about that? Ya Ya always delivers on her promises!”

Ling Yue was momentarily speechless. Looking at Zhao Lin, he was gazing at her, devoid of the earlier excitement, and the diamond butterfly necklace had been temporarily put away in the safe.

“Miss Ling, may I ask how you found this diamond bow knot necklace?”

Ling Yue showed no signs of panic; she had already thought of an excuse before coming: “I found it in a bird’s nest.”

Zhao Lin was taken aback, and she continued slowly, “The reason you couldn’t trace the suspect is not because there were many people involved in stealing this diamond butterfly necklace, but because it was the birds.”

“Some birds like shiny things, so after learning about the characteristics of the diamond butterfly necklace, I started investigating the small animals around your shop.”

For most people, this was completely a blind spot in thinking. After all, who would have thought that such a valuable item was not stolen by a thief, but by small animals that liked it?

Ling Yue cited cases of animal theft from abroad, and Zhao Lin, while astonished, felt somewhat embarrassed. After all, he bore part of the responsibility for the theft of the jewellery. The store’s treasure, which was supposed to be sealed for display, was taken out temporarily by him, and who could have known that in that brief period, it would vanish without a trace

What he didn’t know was that Ya Ya’s subordinates had been waiting for this opportunity for a month.

As the saying goes, “It’s not the thief you fear, but the thief who has their eye on you.”

Now that they had been recruited by Ling Yue and given a good lesson, they quickly brought it back.

Even knowing it was the animals that committed the crime, Zhao Lin had no way to act, as the existing laws in the country had yet to impose sentences on animals.

As they were leaving, Madam Zhao, also known as Long Xin Hua, held her hand: “Yue Yue, remember to come to my house to play when you have time. I’ll have Old Zhao give you my WeChat, and I’ll take you shopping!”

“My little sister is so naturally beautiful; your looks can’t be wasted…” Long Xin Hua paused, looking at the graceful young girl, unable to say the word “trash” anymore, and continued, “Anyway, it can’t be wasted.”

She looked around: “Old Zhao, bring over that star and moon earring.”

“Our little sister’s outfit is too plain. This pair of earrings will be my gift to you for our first meeting. Try them on.”

Ling Yue was almost overwhelmed by her enthusiasm. The earrings were designed in a light silver star and moon style, with edges inlaid with small diamonds and sapphires, exquisite and beautiful, exuding an ethereal quality.

They were indeed beautiful, but Ling Yue glanced at the price: 58,888.

She repeatedly declined, but Long Xin Hua insisted that she was looking down on herself, saying it was a gift from an older sister to a younger sister.

Compared to her husband, Long Xin Hua, who had been nurtured in a family environment since childhood, could see that Ling Yue had an extraordinary temperament.

After everyone left, she still had a smile in her eyes as she said to her husband, “Transfer 500,000 to the young lady, from my personal account.”

The previous 500,000 reward was a decision made by the headquarters, expressing Auspicious Dragon Jewellery’s seriousness about the matter and serving as a form of publicity.

“To offer a reward of 500,000 for a criminal, these jewels must be worth far more!

Zhao Lin was puzzled, but he heard his wife say, “Have you heard that saying? ‘A golden scale is not a mere fish in the pond; once it encounters wind and clouds, it transforms into a dragon.'”

Just based on the calm demeanour the young girl displayed earlier, she was far from an ordinary person. Moreover, her extraordinary abilities left him genuinely amazed.

If the initial theft could still be attributed to coincidence, what about this incident? Helping twice, each time was like sending coal in the snow; they had encountered a benefactor!

As Ling Yue stepped out, she rubbed the little crow’s head, and Ya Ya proudly raised her tail feathers: “Master, am I super awesome?”

Ling Yue unhesitatingly affirmed, slightly curling her lips, feeling very good.

This was a street with a high flow of people, and there were many influencers. She believed that the exciting scene from earlier would soon be seen online.

Suddenly, she heard a faint cry for help: “Help me, help me… Wuwuwu, I’m not a bastard… I don’t want to die…”

ICHITA Ch 5 — Solving a Criminal Case: the Clever Crows Set Up a Scam

Ling Yue poured the fresh shredded meat out from the plastic bag, the red and white shreds piled up in the bowl like a small mountain, quite striking.

The leading crow who was the eldest, instantly swallowed hard, while the two younger sisters tilted their heads, drooling with desire.

“Hiss, sister, this seems to be meat!”

“Wuwuwu, it smells so good, I’m dying of hunger!”

The leading elder crow said, “Yeah, I’m dying of hunger too—” It suddenly perked up, watching Ling Yue warily. Even though it was already starving, its small eyes remained bright and suspicious of this human’s intentions!

“Human, what do you want? Let me tell you, we beasts will never be slaves to humans!”

“Human, what do you want? Let me tell you, we beasts will never be slaves to humans!”

Ling Yue followed up, “Unless you provide food and shelter?”

Ling Yue couldn’t help but laugh, saying, “Your name is Ya Ya, right? I heard you just now. You’ve been flying all day; do you want to eat something first?”

As she spoke, she pushed the three small bowls forward, making her intentions clear.

Ya Ya had never encountered such a strange human before, and perhaps it was because it was the first time someone could understand her words. Otherwise, based on her usual character, she would have flapped her wings and flown away long ago.

“What do you want to do?”

She was still stubbornly resisting when she suddenly heard a plop. Turning her head, she saw the younger crows diving into the mountain of meat, eating without lifting their heads.

Ya Ya flapped her wings, unsure whether to cover her face or fly away, feeling utterly embarrassed!”

However, it was precisely these two silly ones that allowed Ling Yue to successfully infiltrate Ya Ya’s inner circle, learning that they were the three crow sisters, with Ya Ya as the eldest. The three crows had lost their parents unexpectedly before leaving the nest, and Ya Ya had been raising her younger sisters.

Ling Yue pushed the dish filled with water: “Really impressive.”

She stated her purpose; she had thought about it while at the police station. If it weren’t for Ya Ya’s help, she wouldn’t know what the consequences would be if she had ventured out alone.

Thinking of this, Ling Yue’s expression became serious, reminding herself that she must not act impulsively in the future.

Ling Yue: “…In any case, if it weren’t for your help today, I wouldn’t have gotten away so easily. This meal is on me. If you want to eat anything in the future, just let me know, and I will do my best to satisfy you.”

Ya Ya flapped her wings: “You said it yourself.”

Five minutes later, Ling Yue’s balcony was a charred black, looking as if it had been scorched by the sun. In reality—dozens of crows were densely packed on the balcony, jostling and shifting around.

“Hey, you bumped into my butt!”

“You’re squeezing me, newcomer, move back a bit okay?”

“What the hell, do you understand respect for the elderly and love for the young? My claws are going to wear out!” This one was the hot-tempered one who had come from Sichuan to visit relatives.

Ya Ya: “Alright, everyone, shut up.”

“Caw—!” Ya Ya let out a long call, and under her command, the crow minions all shouted in unison: “We greet the boss!”

Ya Ya proudly puffed out her chest: “Since you say I helped you, then first feed my dozens of little brothers. They don’t need to eat meat; they can eat green beans, wheat, or fruits. After all, we crows are omnivores.”

Upon hearing their boss say this, the crows froze in unison, dozens of identical yellow bean eyes staring at Ling Yue. Humans feeding them? How could that be possible!

What they didn’t know was that humans were creatures they utterly despised. Just seeing one would make them curse their luck. Feeding them?

They squawked loudly in protest, but with a single word from Ya Ya, they were silenced. She coughed twice, as if to cover up, and said, “What I did before was nothing. In the future, whatever you want to do, my little brothers will help you.”

Clearly just a bird, Ling Yue could still sense a hint of a big boss’s aura in her words. She raised an eyebrow: “Well, I do have something to trouble Ya Ya with.”

“However, let Ya Ya’s little brothers eat their fill first. After all, we should be considered friends now, right?”

Ya Ya’s face flushed red. If it weren’t for her being covered in black feathers, she would have been embarrassed in front of the annoying human. She huffed: “I-I guess so.”

But her sparkling little eyes didn’t convey the same message to Ling Yue. While the little brothers were eating, Ling Yue tried to use the knowledge she had learned earlier.

Her gaze fell on two little crow sisters.

At some point, a human finger landed on the heads of the birds. The silly little sisters had already squeezed in to rub against the soft fingertip, feeling so comfortable in the places they couldn’t reach.

They weren’t ungrateful crows; such a comfortable thing would definitely not be forgotten by their sister.

Listening to her sisters calling out, Ya Ya’s eyes flickered. How annoying; it really looked so comfortable!

With her superb massage skills, Ling Yue completely conquered the crow trio.

The little crow sisters flapped their wings, wanting to lie directly under the human’s hand, while Ya Ya still maintained a bit of the big sister’s pride, her head rubbing softly against Ling Yue’s gentle fingertip.

As for those dozens of little brothers, they had long been forgotten. They didn’t even notice the impact this scene had on them, each one wide-eyed. This is the big sister?

Ya Ya scanned them with authority: “Who else could it be but me? From now on, she is my friend, and you are not allowed to bully her!”

Ling Yue paused, a smile spilling from her eyes, feeling a bit amused. Was she being protected by a crow?

Before she could speak, the little crow brothers responded enthusiastically, and Ling Yue didn’t expect that their voices attracted some attention.

The neighbor next door, who had opened the window for ventilation, looked at her in shock: “Ling Yue, what is this on your balcony…” He rubbed his eyes curiously, quickly putting on his glasses due to nearsightedness, finally seeing the true nature of this pile of “things.”

The neighbor’s face turned sour, shocked as he said: “Crows?!”

“Go away, go away, this is really bad luck!” The neighbor waved his hand to drive them away. A whole balcony full of crows was quite an eye-opener for him, and he was very worried about Ling Yue’s situation.”

He kindly handed her a bamboo pole from his balcony: “Ling Yue, take this and drive away these unlucky beasts. They are nothing but a bunch of little thieves who love to steal!”

He said indignantly: “I just got my new glasses, and I haven’t even worn them for a few days before they were stolen by them!”

“Caw, caw!”

The group of crows exploded like a drop of water hitting a boiling pot of oil: “Nonsense!”

“These annoying humans are biased; we didn’t take his glasses. They aren’t shiny or sparkly; they don’t look good at all!”

A crow with light-colored speckles on either side of its beak tilted its head: “My nest is in the tree across the street. I saw it; his glasses weren’t lost. They were clearly thrown into the drawer by his little brat, not us!”

“Yeah, we wouldn’t even look at a broken pair of glasses. Diamonds are the most beautiful!”

“Diamonds?”

“That’s what we stole, preparing it as a birthday gift for the big sister. It’s covered in shiny diamonds, almost blinding our eyes, super beautiful!”

“Is it a bow knot diamond necklace encrusted with diamonds, like this?”

Ling Yue said as she opened her phone, revealing a dazzling butterfly diamond necklace lying flat in a black velvet gift box, its colourful light radiating everywhere. It was the display image she had asked Manager Zhao for earlier.
She placed it in front of the crow group, and the noisy balcony instantly fell silent.

Seeing their expressions, Ya Ya, who was hiding in the crowd, could no longer be unaware of the truth and immediately flew into a rage. She wanted to speak but was pressed down by Ling Yue.

Ling Yue waved to the neighbor: “Mr. Liu, no need for that. These crows are just resting. As for your glasses, I think I heard your little brat say he put them in the drawer by the window. Why don’t you go check now?”

Upon hearing her words, the neighbor was instantly furious: “That little rascal! If I find it, I must treat him to a big meal!”

[t/n] basically a big spanking ORZ poor kid LMAO

After speaking, he turned back and forgot about Ling Yue.

Ling Yue curled her lips. Mr. Liu’s son, Lele, was six or seven years old this year, an especially mischievous age, and he was notorious in the neighbourhood for being a little troublemaker. It was easy to imagine that the little troublemaker would definitely enjoy a ‘lavish feast’ tonight!

As for now—

Ling Yue pulled out a chair and sat down, leisurely watching Ya Ya scold her little brothers. Only then did she realise that this was actually a well-organised and disciplined little team. Usually, they rummaged through trash cans for food or hunted for small insects themselves, but this was the first time they had stolen jewellery.

Ling Yue had seen the habits of crows in the system; they indeed liked shiny things.

However, these little crow brothers had not yet realised what they had done wrong. They only felt embarrassed, especially in front of this big sister. Part of the reason they acted this way was due to the nature of crows. Male crows would actively collect these items to win the affection of female crows, showcasing their strength and capability.

Now, feeling embarrassed in front of the goddess they admired, they could hardly lift their crow faces!

Ling Yue did not dwell on it but instead educated the crows about the terrifying value of the bow knot diamond necklace. When they heard it was worth eight million dollars, these little crows were stunned.

“How much is that?!”

“Isn’t that super valuable? Who would have thought such a small thing could be worth so much? We are so capable!”

Ling Yue replied, “Yes, if you convert that money into food, it could not only feed you for a lifetime but also sustain your offspring for generations. However, it also represents how much humans value it.”

She lowered her voice slightly, “If they find out it was you who took the item, they would probably search every bird’s nest in the entire capital city, not just the crows’ nest but other little birds as well. What do you think the consequences would be?”

Ling Yue was not lying. Fortunately, they had not been caught by surveillance or seen by anyone while stealing; otherwise, she might not have encountered the three crow sisters today. After all, the city was home to more than just birds; it was an ecological chain with other natural enemies lurking.

Once these birds lost the protection of their nests, the outcome was easy to imagine.

Ya Ya, being the smartest among them, was startled by her own imagination. She flapped her wings and said sternly, “Quick, return the items! You silly birds, do you want to get everyone killed?!”

The crows finally understood the trouble they had caused and looked at Ling Yue in panic, “We’ll return it! We’ll return it right away!”

Ling Yue looked at the droopy crows, and it was easy to imagine how much of a blow this was to them. She said, “Actually, it’s okay; you weren’t discovered.”

Suddenly, she changed the subject, “By the way, I almost forgot to ask you for help.”

This abrupt statement left the crows completely confused. Ya Ya even pecked at her wings, feeling embarrassed!

They heard Ling Yue softly say, “The person I know is the owner of the jewelry store where the necklace was stolen. He hopes I can retrieve it, so what I need your help with is this matter.”

The two little crow sisters behind Ya Ya’s eyes lit up, and they exclaimed in unison, “Isn’t that a coincidence?!”

They had also been involved in the bow knot theft case, and their nest was built on the street where the jewellery store was located. After hearing Ling Yue mention the serious consequences, they suddenly recalled the people coming and going at the jewellery store these days, along with the surveillance.

They weren’t foolish; stealing it was hard enough, but returning it would be even more difficult!

So they looked at Ling Yue with eager eyes.

Ling Yue: “…”

“Well, I’ll help you this once. Hand over the bow knot diamond necklace to me, and once I get it back to the owner, he won’t hold anything else against you.”

After all, the mastermind was just a group of animals. As long as Zhao Lin wasn’t insane, he wouldn’t take action.

“And I’ll trade you something in return.”

Ling Yue waved to the crows in a tempting tone, “Without the bow knot diamond necklace, there are also rubies and sapphires, beautiful and as big as pigeon eggs, and they sparkle too. Do you want them?”

In an instant, all the crows turned their heads to look, even Ya Ya was tempted by her words.

She already knew that this item was a hot potato for them; they couldn’t get rid of it fast enough, and now they could exchange it for something else.

Ya Ya suddenly looked to the sides, her sisters gaping in awe, and Ya Ya scoffed, saying, “What a bunch of losers!”

But the next second, she was the first to speak, “I want a super big crystal to pad my nest, the kind that can blind a bird’s eyes when the sunlight hits it!”

Ya Ya hesitated for a moment and continued, “We crows are not ungrateful birds. From today on, you are the leader of our crow group!”

With her words, the other crows dared not refuse.

As for the welcome gift from the leader, the crows chattered excitedly, and in the end, they even took half a notebook of notes. Ling Yue also received the bow knot diamond necklace under a big tree. When it landed in her hand, it still carried the warmth of the birds, with a few fluffy feathers stuck to it.

Moreover, it looked exactly like the photo, even more dazzling.

The bow, crafted meticulously by artisans in the last century, was adorned with expensive diamonds. Under the light, each one sparkled, radiating the glow of money.

Ling Yue held her breath; the mechanism of the bow’s base was perfectly fitted with a silver chain, everything was flawless.

Just as she placed it in the box, her phone pinged with a notification: Alipay received—five hundred thousand yuan.

Following that was Zhao Lin’s goodnight message, concise and clear.
Ling Yue raised an eyebrow and typed: [I remember Auspicious Dragon Jewellery opens at eight tomorrow morning. I can come find you at eight-thirty, is that okay?]

On the other side, Zhao Lin, who had just lain down, sat up abruptly. His sudden movement made his wife, who was sharing the bed, complain, “Old Zhao, what are you doing? You’re like a spring, jumping up and down, can’t you let anyone sleep?!”

Zhao Lin, full of excitement, said, “Sleep? I’m not sleepy at all; I’m wide awake!”

He paused and then said, “Honey, you should sleep first.”

At that moment, Zhao Lin had a thousand words in his heart, all converging into one sentence: There’s a way!

He trembled as he replied: [Sure, sure!]

Ling Yue didn’t respond. Since the matter had been agreed upon, she went to bed early. In fact, it was only nine o’clock in the evening, but little did she know that in another place, Zhao Lin had stayed up the entire night because of her one sentence.

The next morning, when his wife saw him in formal attire, with dark circles under his eyes yet still looking spirited after a sleepless night, she was taken aback: “Old Zhao, is this necessary?”

“You’re taking a vague comment so seriously? I heard you say it yourself, a girl just in her early twenties, what capability could she possibly have? Don’t let her fool you!”

Zhao Lin tried to explain, but it was clear that his wife didn’t want to listen and had already made a decision.

—’Today, I’m going with you to the store to see what that little girl is all about.”

Zhao Lin’s eyes widened, and his mouth dropped open. No wonder he felt that Miss Ling had an extraordinary temperament the moment they met; he pondered over what flattering words to say.

The car suddenly stopped, and the driver’s voice came from the front: “Boss, there’s a narrow alley ahead. Our car is too big to get in. What should we do?”

Zhao Lin was at a loss for words: “…What else can we do? Just let it be!”

Ling Yue chuckled and waved her hand to press the car door: “No need, no need!”

“This is an old community, and there are a lot of narrower roads inside. It’s not that troublesome; I can walk a few steps to get home.”

After she finished speaking, she pushed the door open and walked out, meeting Zhao Lin’s eager gaze. She politely said: “I’m not sure if this will be successful, but if I have any news, I will contact you.”

Zhao Lin was overjoyed, but to avoid putting too much pressure on Ling Yue, he suppressed his expression and repeatedly said: “I believe you! I believe you! I believe you!”

If you ask whether he was anxious inside, he definitely was. What clues could a young girl find? The result might just be a wild goose chase. But for Zhao Lin at this moment, he had exhausted all his options, treating a dead horse as a live one. Perhaps, perhaps he could encounter a miracle?”

He didn’t even realize it himself, the hope and anticipation in his eyes shining like a 500-watt light bulb.

Ling Yue walked home, passing by the old houses scattered around like a spider web, their quality and size varying greatly. Her home was in one of the closely-knit old neighborhoods, which, in terms of construction age, was actually the youngest, with the condition of the neighborhood being quite good.

In the flower bed, the pink roses were in full bloom. In the pavilion, the old men were gathered together playing chess. When Ling Yue walked by with her bag, Mr. Jin, who was watching the game, exclaimed in surprise, “Oh Little Yue, is that you off work? Why are you so early today?”

Ling Yue smiled lightly, “I quit my job.”

As soon as these words were spoken, the noisy chess area fell silent for a moment. The old men looked at Ling Yue in shock—she just quit without a word?

Some wanted to persuade her again, after all, they had watched her grow up.

Moreover, in recent years, college graduates had become less valuable, and jobs were harder to find.

Little did they know, Ling Yue showed no signs of despair. Her smile deepened, and two dimples blossomed on her cheeks as she politely declined their good intentions, looking even happier.

She walked into the apartment building, where a cluster of lush green ivy climbed up the mottled and peeling exterior wall, extending upwards like a waterfall of green jade, resembling a vivid and dynamic painting.

Ling Yue climbed the stairs with her head down, deliberately appearing aloof and socially anxious. As for why she did this—

After climbing a few steps, the aunt in the floral shirt pouted and waved her fan, calling out to her, “Hey, is our college student back? Did you have a good day at work? That luxury car outside is blocking the door!”

With that shout, Ling Yue rolled her eyes, instantly understanding her meaning.

Coupled with malicious descriptions like ‘middle-aged man,’ ‘luxury car escort,’ and ‘could be her father,’ it was all insinuating that she was being kept!

Upon hearing the gossip, many people in the corridor quietly poked their heads out, while others chose to step forward, looking at Aunt Wang with disdain. They had been neighbours for many years and knew each other’s temperaments well; it was clear that she was bullying the young girl who seemed vulnerable.

Unexpectedly, Ling Yue looked at Aunt Wang as if waking from a dream, “Did the ground quake just now?”

“What did you say, Auntie? I don’t understand. As for introducing a blind date, your son is over thirty, divorced with two kids in their teens. I really don’t think I would be fit as a stepmother.”

To say that the neighbors in the neighborhood were generally decent people would be true, but in a big forest, there are all kinds of birds. Ling Yue had been busy with her family’s funeral arrangements and somehow got entangled with Aunt Wang.

At first, she could maintain a facade, pretending to help her while actually hinting that a woman should always find someone to rely on. As an orphan without parents, she would be bullied until there was nothing left of her.

Before Ling Yue could speak, Aunt Wang brought up her precious son.

To describe him with a phrase from the internet: he was clearly so ordinary, yet so confident.

Aunt Wang had only one son, whom she spoiled excessively. In her eyes, her son was naturally perfect in every way. If it weren’t for her son insisting on marrying Ling Yue, she wouldn’t bother saying another word!

Now that her precious son was being slandered, her face turned from green to red, then to purple, wishing she could tear apart the mouth of the little brat in front of her: “You’re talking nonsense! My son is a civil servant! A civil servant in the capital! So what if he’s older? Older means he knows how to care for people; so many people are eyeing him, why would I even look at you!”

Ling Yue clapped her hands: “Well said! Your caring old baby has plenty of people wanting him, so don’t bully me, a little girl. Our homes are separated by two buildings; you’re standing in the corridor, clearly not waiting for me, right?”

“Pfft—”

Someone chuckled, and the sound seemed contagious. Aunt Wang, who had been causing a commotion her whole life, was left speechless and embarrassed!
She immediately started cursing, dragging the entire building into her tirade.

The others were instantly displeased—who was she cursing? Was it right to bully a little girl?

They all chimed in to retort, and Aunt Wang, outnumbered, scurried away like a rat. Before leaving, she shot a venomous glare at Ling Yue.

Ling Yue smiled coldly and closed the door.

It was a simple two-bedroom apartment, about a hundred square meters. Although the furnishings were old, they were clean and tidy. With only one occupant, it felt a bit cold.

Ling Yue immediately went to the kitchen, took out a rarely used small bowl, and walked to the balcony to look outside.

“Ya Ya.”

A few crows circling in the sky suddenly paused, flapping their wings as they landed on the balcony, tilting their heads as if casually, their small, yellow bean-sized eyes peering inside.

ICHITA Ch 3 — The Disappearing Jewellery

At the Jing City police station.

Everyone exchanged glances, the open plain-coloured tote bag contained the freshly unearthed gold jewellery still carrying the scent of mud, yet it couldn’t hide its dazzling brilliance. After police verification, the bag contained all the gold jewellery stolen from the Auspicious Dragon Jewellery store in the eastern city half a month ago.

Seeing this, Zhao Fang finally felt relieved, looking at Ling Yue with excitement, repeatedly expressing his gratitude: “Miss Ling! Thank you so much for helping me find these items. I was almost in despair these days!”

After he spoke, he remembered the room full of police officers and his tone faltered: “Of course, I also want to thank the police comrades for their help these days. Without the police comrades, how could we have caught the thief so smoothly?”

Lin Shaoze held a pen, his gaze fixed on the record, repeatedly pondering. Everything seemed so coincidental—Ling Yue inadvertently discovered the thief’s treasure hiding spot, coincidentally being chased by the thief on the day of the treasure digging, which just happened to allow them to catch the other party.

How could it be so coincidental?

Everything seemed so coincidental—Ling Yue inadvertently discovered the thief’s treasure hiding spot, coincidentally being chased by the thief on the day of the treasure digging, which just happened to allow them to catch the other party.

How could it be so coincidental?

His gaze fell on Ling Yue, remaining silent, but the scrutinizing look was already sensed by Ling Yue, making her scalp tingle. She knew her words were full of errors, but she couldn’t directly say that she could understand the thoughts of animals. Was she crazy or were they crazy?

The situation at the time did not allow her to hesitate; she always felt that if she delayed even a moment, the thief would run away with the goods. She was too anxious.

Ling Yue pulled back her thoughts, tapping her fingertips, and smiled slightly at him: “Captain Lin, do you have any other questions? If not, I would like to go home and rest.”

The other officers were momentarily taken aback, unsure of what Captain Lin was doing. The suspect had already confessed, and the matter had been explained several times. The young lady had carried dozens of pounds of items all the way; she must be exhausted.

“Captain Lin, why don’t we let Miss Ling go home first?”

“Wait.” Lin Shaoze said calmly. Under everyone’s gaze, he continued: “The reward for this case hasn’t been exchanged yet. Although it’s only three thousand yuan, with Mr. Zhao’s…”

Ling Yue suddenly burst into laughter, exceptionally radiant, interrupting him: “Three thousand yuan is not a small amount at all.” At least it was two hundred yuan more than her salary of two thousand eight hundred before she resigned.

Yes, two thousand eight hundred, in a first-tier city.

She should be grateful that she still had a place to stay; otherwise, she would have been forced to flee to another place long ago.

Beside her, Zhao Fang quickly added: “And our Auspicious Dragon, Miss Ling has solved a major problem for us this time. Once verified, the five hundred thousand reward will be transferred to your account immediately! No later than three days!”

Ling Yue certainly wouldn’t doubt the truthfulness of his words. After all the hard work along the way, she felt a sense of accomplishment, and her eyes sparkled with excitement.

Five hundred thousand and three thousand!

Fifty thick stacks of red bills could fill a suitcase!

As she left, she felt as if the wind was beneath her feet, her heart racing like a little deer, thumping wildly.

Ling Yue joyfully squinted her eyes. After all, she was only a recent graduate.

Despite what some online platforms claimed about average monthly incomes exceeding ten thousand and savings in the seven figures, in reality, five hundred thousand could buy her a house in a third-tier county. Moreover, having one five hundred thousand meant that the next one wouldn’t be far behind, right?

Outside the police station, Ling Yue finally stopped hesitating between taking a shared bike or walking. Why not just take a taxi?

While waiting for the car, she suddenly remembered something, dashed into the nearby supermarket, and came out with a large bag clearly filled with many items.

Inside the police station, several officers hid behind the door, watching their boss’s back. They pushed each other, and the silly Old Zhu was pushed out by his companions at that moment.

His staggering steps immediately caught Lin Shaoze’s attention. He looked at the group with a puzzled expression, his tone stern yet somewhat gentle:

“What are you all doing? Aren’t you supposed to be training? Is today’s task finished?”

“Come on, Captain! Tell us, are you watching that… that Miss Ling?”

“Mmhm.”

The teammates, who didn’t expect an answer, suddenly paused, looking at their captain in disbelief: “You admitted it? Well, Miss Ling is so beautiful, and her smile is so sweet. No wonder it has stirred our captain’s heart…”

“Cheng Ziming.” Lin Shaoze glanced at him flatly, and in an instant, Cheng Ziming looked like a pitiful little creature being stared at by a terrifying demon, weak and helpless.

“Captain, I was wrong!” He slid to his knees at lightning speed.”

Lin Shaoze could still understand what this group of people was thinking, but he just couldn’t figure it out. His handsome brows rippled slightly: “I always feel that things aren’t that simple.”

“Is there really such a coincidence in the world?”

The team members exchanged glances, and after a while, Cheng Ziming scratched his head: “Isn’t it said that there are no coincidences in a story Besides, I think Miss Ling is beautiful and has keen observation skills. Who would have thought that guy would disguise himself as a scavenger? If Miss Ling hadn’t pointed it out, after our repeated questioning, we might have really let it go.”

“Moreover, we hadn’t even reacted in time, yet the young lady had already grabbed her bag and smashed it at someone, her movements were so decisive and neat, absolutely impressive!”

Those with sharp insight are good at unraveling clues from trivial matters, and besides, wasn’t Miss Ling’s action just like that? The strange behavior before hitting the suspect might have been because she heard the footsteps.

Lin Shaoze tried to convince himself, the light in his eyes flickering.

‘Being adorned with the halo of incredible insight’, Ling Yue: …

If she knew his guess, her head would definitely pop up a row of ellipses like in a comic—they were thinking too much. What footsteps? She was simply listening to Ya Ya and the others. It was Ya Ya who informed her of the suspect’s whereabouts, allowing Ling Yue to time it just right.

Outside the police station, Ling Yue looked up at the sky. After a while, she finally spotted a few sneaky black shadows behind a utility pole, and a subtle smile crept onto her lips.

“Wait—”

Zhao Lin, wiping his sweat, shouted while running: “Miss Ling, wait! Are you going home? How about I give you a ride?”

Ling Yue didn’t have time to refuse, and he already smiled kindly: “Who knows how long it will take under the sun? Besides, you are my benefactor, Miss Ling. If I couldn’t find those things, I don’t know what kind of punishment I would have faced.”

Ling Yue’s phone rang, and she answered it. The driver’s voice came through: “Sorry, ma’am, I’m stuck in traffic and can’t take this job.”

“Ling Yue glanced at Zhao Lin, then looked around. The weather was hot, and the asphalt road looked like a molten lava cake, extreme weather meant that there were hardly any cars, let alone pedestrians.”

“Thinking of this, Ling Yue recalled a news report she had seen earlier, where a passerby was hit by a car and broke three ribs, lying under the sun, yet enduring the pain to crawl into the shade of a tree.

Ling Yue immediately made a decision, smiling brightly: “Then I’ll thank you in advance.”

Her demeanor was graceful and generous.

Zhao Lin was overjoyed, smiling broadly: “Not at all, I should be the one thanking you!”

Zhao Lin, as the branch manager, managed over a dozen employees and was very comfortable in dealing with people, like a spring breeze. He subtly shared a few interesting facts about jewellery, the stories were vivid and engaging, which unconsciously brought them closer together.

Ling Yue tucked the business card she had in her hand into her pocket.

The previously enthusiastic Zhao Lin seemed to be touched, suddenly sighed, carrying the unique weariness of a middle-aged man: “To be honest, this isn’t the first troublesome matter I’ve had to face.”

“I vaguely remember it started with the theft of the store’s prized bow knot diamond necklace. The name sounds ordinary, but it has a significant background.”

“It was four years ago when our boss bought it at the Sotheby’s autumn auction for eight million dollars. It was the most precious possession of the Great emperor of the Xue Empire during their lifetime.”

He lowered his voice to a whisper that only the two of them could hear, and Ling Yue instantly forgot to convert the exchange rate between dollars and yuan, her mind only lingering on that name.

“Have you found it since then?” Ling Yue felt light-headed as she moved her feet, stepping on the carpet in the car, as if walking on a soft cloud.

Ah, while she was feeling pleased about five hundred thousand yuan, others were already using dollars.

Zhao Lin shook his head with a bitter smile: “It’s as if it grew legs and ran away like the wind—we still haven’t found it.”

He held his forehead, puzzled himself: “That day was unfortunate; the store’s surveillance just happened to be broken, so we didn’t capture the suspect. But nothing else happened that day, and the store employees were working fine. In just a blink of an eye, the items inside vanished without a trace.”

“By the way, there are cameras outside the store, but I remember that there were hardly any customers that day, and no one went near the place where the prized item was kept. Instead, there was a flock of crows, cawing and flying around, which was really ominous!”

“The more he spoke, the more dejected he became: “This, this is simply…” He paused: “It’s like seeing a ghost in broad daylight!”

Ling Yue’s breath hitched, and she couldn’t help but develop another thought. If it wasn’t a person, could it be…

Zhao Lin didn’t want to think too much. He was already very happy to find this batch of jewelry. Just as he was about to change the subject, he suddenly heard the little girl’s soft voice: “I might… have a way.”

ICHITA Ch 2 — The First Reward: Five Hundred Thousand Yuan Bounty

The voice sank into silence

At the same time, the tiger reluctantly closed its eyes and was carried away along with two others, separated and locked in their respective enclosures.

Ling Yue was momentarily stunned, an unbelievable thought resurfacing in her mind: could the owner of that voice really be the big tiger?

“Ling Yue, you…” The Zoo Director’s fawning voice rang out again. With so many people watching, many were holding up their phones to record videos; the news might have already spread!

The hero who saved someone from the tiger’s mouth—what a big title!

The Zoo Director’s mind must have flashed through countless marketing plans. With so many internet celebrities nowadays, why couldn’t their zoo take a shot at it?

Of course, the key still lay with Ling Yue.

The voice sank into silence.

He rubbed his fingers together, about to say something, when Ling Yue slightly curled her lips, her eyes glinting coldly, and directly interrupted him: “But I remember I already submitted my resignation; you were quite happy about it.”

She slightly lowered her gaze, deliberately emphasising the word ‘happy.’

The Zoo Director Zhao Fang’s face changed dramatically, stammering out an explanation.

But this sentence was heard by countless people.

The parents of the child were even more sensitive, catching the implication in her words, and immediately became agitated, asking, “Resignation? What happened? Why are you leaving, benefactor?”

This question stirred up a huge wave, the brave hero who saved someone was actually leaving? Many people instinctively looked at Zoo Director Zhao Fang, hoping he would provide an explanation.

The gazes from all directions closed in tightly, causing Zhao Fang to break out in a cold sweat: “W-We certainly haven’t mistreated her!” He quickly changed his tone, speaking earnestly: “Resigning should be a good thing; she is a top student from Capital University, working at our zoo is just wasting her talent.”

Zhao Fang’s eyes darted around, but the more he spoke, the more resolute he became. His righteous demeanour made many visitors skeptical; perhaps they were overthinking it?

At that moment, a regular visitor in the crowd suddenly shouted, “Hey, I finally remembered! Isn’t this the mermaid from the aquarium?”

“How did she end up in Tiger Mountain? What happened to the original keeper? I remember it was a young man; why did a girl have to jump out to save the day at such a critical moment?”

“He’s right here!”

With that shout, everyone turned their angry stares towards that sound.

“Taking advantage of everyone’s attention being on Ling Yue, the zookeeper who was preparing to sneak away was caught off guard, his heart racing, and he didn’t dare to face anyone with his guilty expression.

“Turns out you are the zookeeper?” Someone among the tourists suddenly realised, “Haven’t you been here all along? Just now, when someone was saving a life, you just stood there watching?”

“Oh my goodness, aren’t you ashamed? You’re still a zookeeper at the Tiger Mountain!”

“Why are you running? Where did you go just now? It took a little girl to step up! You’re embarrassing all of us men! Everyone, take a picture of this coward!”

The zookeeper panicked; he had faced many storms in life, but hearing about his online disgrace made him unable to hold it together. He blurted out, “No, it’s not me! I’m not the zookeeper at Tiger Mountain; she is!”

He pointed at Ling Yue: “She is the current zookeeper at Tiger Mountain, and if something happens there, she should be responsible! This has nothing to do with me!”

“You liar!” a tourist exclaimed indignantly, “I saw her with Jingjing at the aquarium yesterday, dancing with the little dolphin over there. How come she’s at Tiger Mountain today?”

“She started working in less than a day? Didn’t even go through training, and it’s the most ferocious Tiger Mountain. Which idiot thought this was a good idea? Isn’t this just asking for trouble?!”

Zhao Fang’s face turned as dark as a pot bottom because he was the one who gave the order. Before he could panic, a junior staff member had already thrown him under the bus, saying, “How would I know? The Zoo Director notified me… it’s all his fault…”

As he spoke, he covered his face and held up the WeChat chat records high.

Even the tourists nearby knew how unreliable this situation was! The police officer responsible for recording the incident, hearing this, said kindly to Zhao Fang, “Please come with us to the station; we need to clarify the truth of the matter.”

Zhao Fang was taken aback, wiping his sweat, “No, Officer, our big zoo can’t do without me; I still have business to attend to…”

His protests gradually diminished under the police’s gaze.”

As for business, with such a major incident occurring at the zoo, nearly resulting in a loss of life, it was naturally impossible to continue.

At this moment, the tourists had surrounded the scene in layers, and now hearing that this incident was connected to another matter, many were furious!

The angriest were the parents of the girl in danger.

Fang Qinghui kept patting her child’s back, soothing her daughter, and when she looked up to meet her husband’s gaze, she was filled with rage!

They had been married for many years and had only this one daughter, whom they cherished more than their own eyes. The accident today had already chilled her heart; if it weren’t for Ling Yue risking her life to save their daughter, their family would have fallen apart!

Now hearing that there was a reason behind this, she looked at her husband: “Child’s father.”

No need for further words; her husband understood immediately.

Though he wasn’t very powerful, he had his own connections in the capital city and could speak a few words here and there.

Watching the villain being led away by the police, the tourists clapped in satisfaction, only to realise that the hero who saved the girl, Ling Yue, had already disappeared.

Fang Qinghui looked around in frustration: “Where’s the benefactor?”

Her husband: “…”

Just now, everyone’s attention had been on the unscrupulous boss, and no one had noticed…

By the side of the asphalt road, the lush green trees cast a cool shadow as Ling Yue hurried home, surprised gazes falling to the side.

Just ten minutes ago, she had been bound by the system.

The system, in a mechanical voice, told her that the voice she had suddenly heard in her head was the tiger’s inner voice. Not only that, but she could also hear the voices of other animals, such as—

The french bulldog napping beside the big tree in front of her, its round body as plump as a washing machine drum, with its short chin resting on its little paws.

When it saw her stop, it didn’t move, only its round, glassy eyes turned towards her: “Oh, it’s a person. What? Never seen such a beautiful dog before? Too bad I already have an owner; I’m a dog you’ll never get!”

Ling Yue: “… No need to be so confident; I can barely take care of myself.”

The buldog’s ears perked up: “Are you talking to me?”

Ling Yue nodded.

The air suddenly fell silent for three seconds, and the Bulldog yelped, leaping up, its sturdy legs darting away at an angle, shouting as it ran, “Help! I’ve encountered a lunatic!”

Ling Yue watched its fleeing figure, and according to her thoughts, the system automatically displayed the Bulldog’s attribute sheet:

[Species: French Bulldog]
[Gender: Male]
[Age: Five and a half years]
[Personality: Gentle]
[Skill: Guarding the house]
[Wish: None]

Ling Yue was left speechless, finally understanding the system’s function. Besides the initial self-introduction, the subsequent attribute panel was for her to better understand the animals.

Except for one skill: if she fulfilled an animal’s wish, Ling Yue could gain one of its skills. Of course, animals with wishes were rare, and that Bulldog just now was not among them.

“Hahahahahaha, the stupid dog finally ran away!”

pls do not share this anywhere or u will always stub ur toe when u walk past a door frame !! this translation has been stolen from mioscorner.com, pls only read there i’m begging u :kneels:

Ling Yue looked up; on a branch of the big tree was a bird’s nest, and a black crow stood at the edge of the nest, cawing with laughter: “I don’t know why that stinky dog suddenly ran away today, but it saved me a lot of trouble!”

“That stinky dog is really too bad, always napping under the tree, making it impossible for the birds to sleep!”

“You’re the best, big sister! That dog must have been scared away by your aura!”

Several younger crows behind her vied for attention, cawing incessantly, making it painful for people’s ears.

A gentle warm breeze blew by, the weather starting to get hotter.

Ling Yue shook her head, controlling the attribute screen of the crows to disappear, and decided to check her balance to see if it was enough to unlock a shared bicycle. Suddenly, she heard the voice of the crow sister above her:“Sisters, hurry up and follow me!“

“The flapping of wings mixed with excited shouts: “Caw caw caw! This guy is a thief; I saw him robbing a jewelry store, and humans are offering a reward of five hundred thousand! He even buried a bag of shiny stuff by the big willow tree at the East Lake; I heard him say he’s going to dig it up today, sisters, charge!”

Ling Yue: “Five hundred thousand yuan reward?”

[t/n] approx. 69k usd

She instinctively looked across, where a scavenger uncle, carrying a garbage bag and dressed in tattered clothes, was walking towards her. Upon noticing her gaze, his wrinkled face broke into an awkward smile.

He looked very uneasy, very shy.

His appearance was that of a typical scavenger; if it weren’t for the crows, Ling Yue might not have even noticed him.

She finally recalled the sensational jewellery robbery case in the eastern part of the city from half a month ago. That incident made headlines in the capital’s news, and there was an overwhelming amount of information online. It was said that the thieves had stolen jewellery worth over ten million, the entire city was on lockdown, and the police issued a notice stating that the suspects had not yet left the capital.

He was coming closer!

Ling Yue’s heart skipped a beat, and she pulled out her phone to start scrolling through Douyin. You stay introverted, and I’ll stay socially anxious; let’s not talk to each other.

t/n: chinese tiktok

As for what she was thinking, what a talent!”

If she remembered correctly, the jewellery store was just a street away from here. He actually swaggered onto the street disguised as a scavenger. Ling Yue had seen the wanted poster of the man; aside from the gender, nothing else matched.

Not to mention her, even the police probably wouldn’t recognize him.

But as the saying goes, man proposes, but heaven disposes.

That big willow tree by the East Lake? It was way too close; Ling Yue often played there as a child.

At that moment, a few crows flew by, leaving behind a few remarks: “Isn’t he planning to run away today?”

“Let’s hurry, maybe we can grab something!”

Ling Yue’s gaze sharpened, and she quickly dialled the police, turning back on her heels.

On this scorching hot day, the East Lake Park was devoid of any shadows; it was simply too sunny.

Ling Yue wiped her face and noticed a patch of grass by the tree that looked rather bare. She reached over, and the soil was particularly loose. She took a shovel and didn’t dig for long before the sharp tip hit something.

Half of a grey, dusty sack was buried in the ground. Ling Yue pulled it up, and the open bag almost blinded her with its golden shine!

A sack full of gold and gems!

Ling Yue didn’t have time to marvel; suddenly, her ears perked up, hearing the distant cawing of crows: “Sister, someone is digging for treasure here!”

“Quick, follow! I want to see the shiny stuff! Shiny!”

Ling Yue’s heart raced. This group of crows had been following the thief; if they were here, the thief must be too, and she couldn’t be caught.

She didn’t know where her strength came from, but she quickly stuffed the heavy items into a tote bag, swiftly covered the hole, and stomped on it a few times.

As she came out, she bumped right into him. Ling Yue held the bag and walked past him as if it were nothing.

In that fleeting moment, cold sweat broke out on Ling Yue’s back.

It was too risky!

If it weren’t for the crows saying he was going to settle accounts today, she would never have stepped forward but would have waited for the police to arrive!

Behind the tree.

The jewellery thief, carrying a shrivelled snake skin bag, had finally found his opportunity just yesterday. He was waiting to take this pile of gold away and then soar freely!

A smile crept onto the man’s honest face as he looked around; no one was there.

He felt relieved, found the spot he had marked earlier, and suddenly saw several footprints. He poked his finger in, and the fresh soil turned out to be very loose and moist. But what about what was underneath?

Damn, it had been stolen!

He suddenly remembered the woman he had bumped into earlier, charging towards her like an angry bull!

Ling Yue had already run off, the heavy bag pressing against her back. The weather was hot, and as she ran, crows circled above her, cawing loudly.

“Wow, she’s amazing! The jewellery thief just noticed her!”

“He’s coming after us, to the right! Hey, little girl, turn left!”

Ling Yue immediately turned around and ran towards the park entrance.

At the same time, several cars stopped at the entrance of East Lake Park, and a few young men in casual clothes moved swiftly, with one seemingly leading the group.

Zhao Lin, the general manager of Auspicious Dragon Jewellery, stepped out surrounded by his subordinates. Upon seeing the leading man, he smiled and said, “Captain Lin, what brings you here?”

The man had handsome features and a cold demeanor. He rolled up his sleeves, revealing a pale wrist, his long fingers delicate like a piece of art displayed in a gallery. Little did people know how many criminals those fingers had swiftly apprehended.

His gaze was as sharp as a drawn blade, glancing over with a glint: “Did you receive that call too?”

Zhao Lin immediately became serious: “You did too? She told me it was at the entrance of East Lake Park. Since there hasn’t been much going on at the store these days, I came out to follow up.”

If he hadn’t accidentally pulled at the blisters on his mouth while speaking out of anxiety, Lin Shaoze felt the credibility of his words would have increased by another point.

The Auspicious Dragon Jewellery case had caused extremely adverse effects, with nearly ten million worth of jewellery stolen, and the criminals had remained elusive, which was like a slap in the face to the police.

Auspicious Dragon Group had offered a reward of five hundred thousand, and the police also had a reward out, launching a thorough search. However, due to the criminals’ cunning methods and swift actions, there had been no leads until now.

In contrast, countless people were drawn by that five hundred thousand yuan reward. In fact, it shouldn’t have been necessary for Lin Shaoze, the captain of the criminal police team, to come personally; it was the woman’s confident voice on the phone that made it sound as if she had seen the thief’s treasure with her own eyes, firmly stating the location.

Completely different from the hesitant voices of others.

Lin Shaoze keenly sensed some unusual clues. Before coming, he had already reviewed the information on the East Lake, an old park built decades ago, usually frequented only by nearby elderly people. The key point was that it was only a ten-minute walk from the crime scene!

The criminals couldn’t possibly carry dozens of pounds of gold and jewelry for long. To avoid the police’s attention and escape quickly, they would definitely choose to dispose of the stolen goods as soon as possible!

The man’s sharp gaze seemed to penetrate the iron gate, falling far away.

They had no idea what kind of tense chase was happening in the park.

In terms of pace and speed, Ling Yue couldn’t possibly match the thief, but she had the crows as her GPS navigation, providing real-time reminders. Besides, East Lake Park wasn’t that big.

She pressed her hand against the gate, finally arriving.

Crows circled overhead, cawing loudly: “Caw caw caw, the jewel thief is coming after us!”

Ling Yue pursed her lips and chuckled lightly: “It’s okay, the person I’m waiting for has also arrived.”

In the sky, the excited crows flapped their wings, momentarily pausing mid-air, suddenly letting out a loud caw.

“Are you talking to me?”

“Ah ah ah, help! She can speak bird language!”

Ling Yue had already opened the gate, and what greeted her was not just the scorching sunlight, but also a group of people outside. She quickly locked onto Zhao Fang, the only person she recognised among them.

Ling Yue had seen him online, depicted as the general manager of the Auspicious Dragon Jewellery branch in the eastern city, although it was only once. But it didn’t matter, since she had a photographic memory.

Ling Yue: “Manager Zhao, I am the one who reported the case earlier.”

“What I’m holding is the stolen goods, please wait a moment.”

She pretended to listen intently, her mysterious demeanour causing people to instinctively hold their breath. Aside from the skilled officers, the frontmost Lin Shaoze frowned: what a strange person.

In the next moment, a piercing bird cry rang out, and Ling Yue suddenly flung the bag she was holding. What happened next was astonishing.

Ling Yue swung hard, and dozens of pounds of gold jewelry smashed onto the man who rushed out, producing a sound that made one’s teeth ache.

The man staggered, his brain reeling from the impact. In the dizzying chaos, he only had time to see Ling Yue’s face, which matched his guess perfectly—it was that wretched woman!

Ling Yue: “I want to file a report: he is the mastermind behind the jewellery theft case in the eastern city!”

Veterinary Medicine Class 5 group chat.

Laughter of Wind Chimes: [Does anyone still remember Ling Yue? She was the top of our department; do you know where she’s working now?]

This sentence stirred up a thousand waves. After graduation, the gradually quiet class group chat suddenly saw many people popping up because of this question.

Meng Meng Wants to Get Rich: [Ling Yue? What happened? She should be working at some pet hospital, right?]

Tempest: [Hey, you clearly don’t know, Ling Yue, she… tsk tsk tsk.]

Meng Meng Wants to Get Rich: [What do you mean? She’s the top of our department, with such good grades and abilities, a good job should be easy for her, unlike me, who’s almost dead from exhaustion every day.]

The girl who had just sparked the topic laughed at her phone, her eyes filled with pride: [What’s the use of being the top of the department? In the end, she’s just feeding dolphins at the zoo. I heard her job doesn’t even qualify for tax! [Attached Image][Attached Image]]

She sent several pictures, curious classmates clicked to open them, and the girl in the images was stunning; even in a cheap mermaid costume, her profile could outshine many.

The last picture showed her face directly.

She was wet, leaning by the pool, her long black hair spread out, her face pale as snow; she should have looked disheveled, but against that exquisite and beautiful face, she appeared fragile and incredibly moving.

It was precisely because of this that people recognized her true identity—Ling Yue!

Meng Meng Wants to Get Rich: [Ah, how could she be working at the zoo? She’s the top of our department!]

Young Master Zhou Zhou Zhou Zhou: [Hahaha, an animal keeper? This must be fake!]

I Don’t Want to Work Hard Anymore: [Wow, the beauty is indeed a beauty for a reason, still so pretty!]

Second Dog Liu: [Yeah, I don’t know where Ling Yue is working; should I buy a ticket to support her?]

Young Master Zhou Zhou Zhou Zhou: [Second Dog, I see your support is fake; you really just want to see the beauty!]

The classmates who were gloating over Ling Yue’s drastic fall from grace were increasingly amazed, and Laughter of Wind Chimes, also known as Feng Lingling, was even more satisfied until she saw several compliments below, causing her expression to instantly change.

She typed furiously: [Hehe, no matter how beautiful, she’s still fallen from grace, offending people she shouldn’t have; a sparrow can’t fly up to become a phoenix!]

Meng Meng wants to get rich quickly: [Hiss, how long has it been? Feng Lingling, do you still remember?]

Laughter of Wind Chimes: [It’s hard not to remember. That incident back then almost blew up our school forum.]

She proudly showed off her newly done nails, chatting casually while subtly bringing up Ling Yue, usually in a negative light.

Surprisingly, many in the class group chat shared the same thoughts as her. After all, Ling Yue used to be so eye-catching, and the teacher everyone admired had given her special treatment.

But they forgot that it was clearly their own lack of effort to improve their abilities that led to their jealousy of Ling Yue, their eyes red with envy!

They used to be too afraid to act, but now that they learned about Ling Yue’s ‘tragic situation’, they clamoured to visit their old classmate.

Visiting was just a pretence; humiliation was the real intention.

Qiao Qiao was playing on her phone during lunch break and happened to see the commotion in the class group. Her curiosity piqued, she scrolled from the beginning to the end, causing her to almost explode with anger.

What kind of people are these!

Taking advantage of Ling Yue’s absence from the group chat, they were spouting nonsense!

She was like a lit firecracker, bursting out with a barrage of retorts, not forgetting to message her friend who had already left the group chat, that is, Ling Yue.

Qiao Qiao: [Yueyue, there are fools in our class group slandering you! You were so wise to leave the group; the people in there are completely brainless, all idiots!]

Without waiting for a reply, she launched a new round of counterattacks, single-handedly debating against the crowd, managing to silence the others.
Someone brought up past rumors—

Big Big Big Farewell: [Qiao Qiao, what are you going crazy about! Am I wrong? Qin Junxin, who pursued Ling Yue, is so good! She looks down on people, yet she dangles herself in front of them!]

Big Big Big Farewell: [In the end, karma hit hard. That little princess has good taste, willing to be with Old Qin, and even clarified the rumours. Ling Yue actually felt uncomfortable, slandering Qin for spreading rumours.]

Wings of the Wind: [Old Qin is now working at the little princess’s family group, at least for twenty years! [Thumbs up]]

Most of the graduates from Class 5 are now working in pet hospitals or running their own pet clinics, becoming their own bosses. When it comes down to it, only the Qin Junxin that everyone talks about has climbed the highest.

He is the boyfriend of the daughter of a well-known group’s boss, now working in a big corporation, achieving success in both career and love. In contrast, Ling Yue, having offended the little princess, reaped what she sowed and was forced to work at a zoo, becoming the laughingstock of everyone.

Persimmons are often picked because they’re soft, what’s more if it’s people?

In a moment of impulse, Qiao Qiao’s actions backfired. Seeing the mockery and ridicule above, she stomped her feet in anger!

It’s not like that at all!

She is Ling Yue’s best friend, inseparable during college, and no one knows the truth better than her!

Qiao Qiao tugged at her hair, staring at the chat interface with Lingyue, sending her an invitation to join the group chat: [Yueyue, come in! You have no idea how foul their mouths are!]

She clicked send, and her phone suddenly froze. Qiao Qiao, with her impulsive personality, frantically tapped the screen. At the same time, a message suddenly popped up, and Qiao Qiao clicked on it without thinking. By the time she realized, it was already too late.

She casually glanced, and the title was simply shocking.

#Shocking! A woman jumps into the zoo’s tiger enclosure with a gun#

Curious, she scrolled through the page and was instantly dumbfounded!

What a big shock —— old pal!

The photo clearly showed her best friend Ling Yue holding a tranquilizer gun, aiming at a tiger!

Qiao Qiao covered her racing heart, and after reading the news, she felt alive again. The facts and the title couldn’t be said to be identical; they were completely different!

Her best friend is a great hero!

It turned out that a child had fallen into the tiger enclosure at the zoo, and it was Ling Yue who saved the child at a critical moment! The message was sent by a local news reporter, praising Yueyue as a heroine, a new generation of good youth in China!

She laughed heartily, then quickly realised she was at work, covering her mouth to stifle her laughter, and looking back at the chat group felt like watching a bunch of clowns.

Qiao Qiao forwarded the news to the group.

Qiao Qiao: [Oh, even in the zoo, our Yueyue is doing great things! After all, shiny things aren’t necessarily gold, but gold will always shine.]

A moment of silence.

Qiao Qiao thought that many people must have clicked the link and seen the news. The boys, don’t know how furious they might be, and those who were jealous before must be livid!

Qiao Qiao grinned, feeling utterly satisfied!

She then saw Lingyue’s message: [I’ve already resigned.]

Although Qiao Qiao was shocked, she quickly responded: [Sister, I support you! [Thumbs up]]

At the zoo, Ling Yue heard a loud ‘bang‘.

The tiger fell to the ground, the new tranquilizer’s effect was incredibly swift; once the target fell, it could only watch itself faint.

At that moment, the crowd erupted in deafening cheers and screams.

“Ah, the child is saved!”

“Hero! A great hero who snatched a child from the jaws of a tiger!”

“She really succeeded, she really succeeded, the child is fine!”

The child’s mother was overjoyed to the point of tears, kneeling down to her, and finally collapsing into her husband’s arms, crying like a waterfall.

Ling Yue hurried to hug the child, discovering she only had a slight scrape; she must have been cushioned by a tree when she fell and landed in the soft grass, truly a child kissed by the goddess of luck.

“Security is here!”

“The police are here!”

Rescue personnel finally arrived late. As Ling Yue carried the child past the fallen tiger, the zoo director Zhao Fang finally arrived, drenched in sweat and panting, looking as if he had just been fished out of water.

Seeing the glass hole in the protective barrier, he was instantly struck with a heart attack. Damn it, how much of the money did that useless younger brother-in-law scrape off the top? What could this material even stop?!

Zhao Fang knew how many people were watching the situation and immediately changed his expression, asking Ling Yue with concern: “Little Yue, how are you feeling now? Are you hurt? You are our zoo’s great contributor, you…”

pls do not share this anywhere or u will always stub ur toe when u walk past a door frame !! this translation has been stolen from mioscorner.com, pls only read there i’m begging u :kneels:

The Zoo Director’s mouth was almost dry from talking, yet when he looked up, no one even spared him a glance.

Ling Yue was surrounded by a crowd, suddenly becoming the moon with all the stars revolving around her. She was not overwhelmed by the praise; instead, she remained very clear-headed.

She pressed her lips together, always willing to interpret others’ actions with the utmost malice, especially in this den of snakes and rats known as the zoo, and the person behind them.

And the story had to start from some time ago.

As a recent graduate from the Animal Medicine Department of Capital University, while her classmates had all found jobs, her resume had sunk without a trace. Even the few replies she received were perfunctory rejections.

It wasn’t that Ling Yue was unqualified; she had always been at the top of her class and had received numerous offers. However, after her graduation, all of them went silent. Later, Ling Yue learned that it was all because of a man.

What was even more ridiculous was that this man could only be considered her pursuer.

Due to her outstanding looks, Ling Yue had many admirers growing up, and Qin Junxin was one of them, the most difficult one to deal with. Once, he staged a grand confession on the school’s athletic track, which Ling Yue rejected on the spot.

Later, it was said that he started dating the daughter of a certain wealthy enterprise and gradually faded from Ling Yue’s sight, allowing her to forget about him.

Who would have thought that after her graduation, he would suddenly make a move?

The reason was even more laughable, as Ling Yue learned from her friend Qiao Qiao—that Qin Junxin was such a coward!

His girlfriend, with a spoiled and domineering personality, found out that he had once pursued Ling Yue. Furious, she questioned him, and fearing that he would be dumped by the little princess, Qin Junxin turned the tables and accused Ling Yue of seducing him. He claimed he couldn’t resist, only to later realise he had been played by Ling Yue, who had long since climbed into the arms of a rich second generation, just to toy with him.

The little princess, lacking common sense, exploded in anger. First, she accused Ling Yue of being a green tea bitch who seduced her boyfriend within campus walls, and then she tried to block her graduation. The former was directly slapped back by Ling Yue with evidence while the latter was a futile effort as the school protected her. All these tactics backfired and only brought her more trouble.

Isn’t it said that the Little Princess lacks brains? Knowing she had been deceived, she not only failed to reflect but instead escalated her actions!

It was also a case of enemies crossing paths. The other party’s family was involved in the pet industry and ordered a ban on her within the industry. A flourishing enterprise’s daughter versus a fresh graduate—it was obvious who had more weight.

In the end, only one zoo was willing to hire her. It was at the zoo that Ling Yue later realised was not a place that defied power; it was clearly a setup aimed to slowly grind her down.

Targeted by her superiors and ostracised by her colleagues, the past month felt longer than a year. As for why she hadn’t resigned, Ling Yue lowered her eyes and let out a bitter smile.

Her only companion, her mother, had suddenly passed away, and to bury her mother, she had nearly exhausted all her savings.

Later, even though she endured the humiliation, the other party always found excuses to provoke her. From the aquarium to Tiger Mountain—who didn’t know how fierce tigers were? Usually, two male keepers would take care of them together.

When the accident happened, Ling Yue had no time to hesitate and stepped forward.

In a moment of chaotic thoughts, she had already made her choice; she should have left this place long ago. She wasn’t afraid of death; it was them who should be afraid!

On a hot summer day, a sudden cool breeze blew through, bringing refreshing relief. Ling Yue heard her own heartbeat, joyfully thumping.

Suddenly, she cleared her thoughts and heard a rough grunt.

“Ugh, this tiger is so heavy,” complained the professional lifting the tiger, not the voice Ling Yue had heard.

That voice sounded again.

Ling Yue looked in surprise at the anesthetized tiger, which was staring wide-eyed. A silly voice echoed in her mind: “Oh my, this flesh has been poisoned!”

The tiger was talking?!
