RHRPAW Ch 86

When the bearded man first arrived, he noticed that the hotpot restaurant and its surroundings were exceptionally clean, with no mutated beasts or zombies in sight. Seeing how accustomed everyone else was to this, he realized it must be due to some sort of ability of Boss Jiang’s.

Thinking about this made him feel even more at ease.

Jiang Ci led them to the vacant rooms in the staff dormitories, allowing them to choose their rooms and then collect the keys from her.

After receiving Jiang Ci’s approval, the survivors began running up and down the floors, finally deciding on their rooms before coming back downstairs to register with Jiang Ci and collect their keys.

The bearded man, Luo Rui, along with his niece Luo Chengcheng, chose a room on the second floor.

After taking the key from Jiang Ci, he held Luo Chengcheng’s hand and stood at the door of room 205. Upon unlocking the door, they found a simple yet clean and cozy room.

Luo Chengcheng cheered and ran inside. The orange hues of the setting sun streamed through the window, bathing the room in a warm glow that struck them deeply in their hearts. Luo Rui stood rooted to the ground, unable to move for a long time.

After arranging their housing, Jiang Ci took Lu Dongmei to see the newly unlocked medical clinic.

Jiang Ci also showed Lu Dongmei the medicinal herbs she had previously cultivated.

Seeing so many fresh herbs, Lu Dongmei’s eyes were filled with delight, “It’s so fresh and well-grown.”

“Yes, I have a plot of land in my courtyard. Half of it is for vegetables, and the other half for medicinal herbs. There’s a batch growing right now, I’ll bring them to you as well when they mature. There’s a dedicated room here for the processing and preparation of herbs, equipped with everything you need. The clinic won’t be opening for business just yet, but we’ll see what the situation is like once you’ve prepared the herb.”

Hearing about the herb garden, Lu Dongmei expressed her desire to see it, and Jiang Ci agreed after giving it some thought.

Upon seeing the vast expanse of land full of vitality, Lu Dongmei’s eyes suddenly welled up with tears. She never imagined she would live to see such a sight.

She had felt despair several times, thinking that the medical knowledge she and her family had spent a lifetime learning would soon be lost. But now, she saw hope again.

Early the next morning, Luo Rui and the scar-faced man, Chen Mo, donned their uniforms and began their work in the outdoor area.

With so many tall and burly employees in the courtyard, the survivors queued up much more obediently than before, and there were no more disputes over cutting in line. This also saved Jiang Ci a lot of trouble.

The new tasks were also successfully completed today. The hotpot restaurant and the barbecue restaurant unlocked tripe, as well as grilled cheese, respectively. The breakfast shop finally unlocked the fried dough sticks that Jiang Ci had been longing for day and night.

the grilled cheese is probably smth like this

As soon as they were unlocked, Jiang Ci could smell the unique aroma of fried food.

Just like Jiang Ci had expected, the combination of fried dough sticks and soy milk sold exceptionally well.

Starting the morning with a bowl of soy milk, tearing the fried dough sticks into small pieces and soaking them in the soy milk, then savoring them bite by bite after they had absorbed the soy milk, was simply the best way to begin the day.

The tripe dishes and cheese were also quite popular among the survivors. Jiang Ci could finally enjoy various foods paired with cheese, and the air was filled with a milky fragrance.

On the way to City C, a man was engaged in a fierce battle with several mutated beasts, which had long, curved horns.

Although their level wasn’t very high, they were still quite troublesome to deal with.

Just as the man was feeling somewhat strained, several swords formed out of water suddenly flew from the side, piercing through the bodies of the mutated beasts in front of him.

With this assistance, the mutated beasts were quickly dealt with.

Zheng Wan took a moment to catch his breath, then looked at the hooded survivor clad in black whose face was obscured and said, “Thank you.”

“You’re welcome,” came a low female voice from under the hood. “You’re injured, better bandage it up.”

Zheng Wan looked down and saw that his thigh was injured, likely from the recent battle.

After thanking her again, he prepared to tend to his wounds. However, he didn’t sit down directly. Instead, he first laid the person he was carrying on his back on the ground, ensuring that the clothes and the quilt stitched together from cloth didn’t cover their mouth and nose, before he sat down.

As he was treating his wounds, the woman who had helped him came over to assist.

“Is this your wife? Her face is so flushed, does she have a fever?” the woman asked as she approached Zheng Wan and glanced at the person wrapped in the quilt.

She hadn’t noticed earlier that Zheng Wan was carrying someone on his back, as the woman was extremely thin and small.

Zheng Wan turned to look at the woman, his eyes softening with tenderness. “Yes, she’s my wife. She has a high fever with red rashes on her body and can’t be exposed to the wind.”

The woman frowned slightly. This was the tenth or so survivor she had seen with a fever on her journey. She wanted to help, but didn’t have any sort of medicine for this kind of illness.

“I want to take her to City A. It’s where the largest base in our country is, so there should be medicine for treatment there,” Zheng Wan added.

The woman, however, frowned. The patients she had seen before had all ended up falling ill quickly and dying just as fast. And it would take at least five more days to reach City A from here.

She glanced at the woman, who was breathing rapidly and seemed to be in great discomfort. It was unlikely she would last that long.

“Thank you again for your help. You can take some of the mutated beasts that you need,” Zheng Wan said to the woman after his wound was bandaged.

The woman waved her hand. “No, I don’t need them. You take them. You’ll need a lot of crystal cores for her treatment.”

“Thank you. My name is Zheng Wan, from the Sunrise Base. If you ever need my help in the future, I’ll definitely be there.” Zheng Wan didn’t hold back, as he was indeed in desperate need for more crystal cores.

The woman also reached out and shook his hand. “Lin Fei, an independent survivor.”

A hint of surprise and admiration flashed in Zheng Wan’s eyes. There weren’t many independent survivors left these days, and those who could survive alone in this apocalyptic world were truly tough individuals.

As they were about to part ways, Lin Fei thought for a moment and then said to Zheng Wan, “I’m heading to a hotpot restaurant in City C. The boss there is quite formidable and might have a way to save your wife. Would you like to come with me and see?”

After all, in Lin Fei’s mind, Jiang Ci was practically omnipotent.

Zheng Wan’s original base wasn’t far from City C, so he naturally knew about the hotpot restaurant. However, he was seeking medical treatment, and going to a hotpot restaurant seemed unlikely to help the situation. But seeing the sincerity in Lin Fei’s eyes, Zheng Wan eventually nodded in agreement. After all, he had to pass through City C to get to City A anyway, so it wouldn’t hurt to check it out on the way. Every little bit of hope counted.

It had been several months since Lin Fei last returned to City C. Yes, returned. Ever since becoming friends with Jiang Ci, she had developed a sense of attachment to this city which she had only stayed in briefly before.

After months of absence, Lin Fei noticed that the hotpot restaurant had expanded significantly, with many new buildings added.

The courtyard was bustling with more people than before, and the air was filled with the aroma of burning charcoal.

Although Zheng Wan had heard of the hotpot restaurant before, he had never been there. Seeing it for the first time, he was naturally awestruck, but quickly regained his composure after the initial shock.

Just as he was about to ask where the boss was, he saw a figure running toward them. In the next moment, Lin Fei, who had been expressionless and rather aloof throughout the journey, suddenly embraced the person with a smile that could only be described as tender.

“Fei Fei, you’ve finally returned,” Jiang Ci said, looking at Lin Fei, whom she hadn’t seen in a long time. She was genuinely happy, as Lin Fei was the first female friend she had made since arriving in this apocalyptic world.

“Let’s skip the small talk for now. This is Zheng Wan. He’s here with his wife seeking medical treatment. I brought him here to see if you might have a solution,” Lin Fei said to Jiang Ci.

“You’ve come at just the right time. Our clinic just opened,” Jiang Ci said to Zheng Wan. “There aren’t many patients yet, so bring her over quickly.”

Zheng Wan hadn’t held much hope, but to his surprise, there really was a clinic here. After a moment of stunned silence, he quickly carried his wife on his back and followed Jiang Ci.

When Jiang Ci arrived at the clinic, Lu Dongmei and Huang Yue were busy processing medicinal herbs. Seeing the group hurrying over, they quickly came out of the medicine preparation room.

“Sister Dongmei, this gentleman is here for a consultation. Please take a look,” Jiang Ci said to Lu Dongmei.

Zheng Wan had already set his wife, Chen Rong, down from his back and then carried her to sit opposite Lu Dongmei.

Lu Dongmei took Chen Rong’s pulse, her expression gradually becoming more serious. She quickly spoke up, “Everyone, put on your masks first.”

Jiang Ci hurriedly took out several masks and handed them to the people present, her heart already harboring a faint suspicion.

“This is an acute infectious disease that can be transmitted through the air. Did you come into contact with anyone else on your way here?” Lu Dongmei asked.

Jiang Ci shook her head, “We avoided the crowd and came around from the back. It’s only the few of us who have come into contact with it.”

Lu Dongmei nodded, “Good, let’s close the door first. The incubation period of this disease usually takes two to three days. You may need to quarantine here for these three days as well.”

Her and Huang Yue were already wearing masks and gloves, which was standard procedure for her as a doctor, and had avoided direct contact with the virus.

“I’m sorry,” Zheng Wan’s face was full of remorse. He hadn’t expected his wife to carry such a virus and had inadvertently implicated Lin Fei and the boss here.

“I’m also at fault. I was the one who brought them here,” Lin Fei frowned slightly, realizing she hadn’t been cautious enough and had also implicated Jiang Ci.

“It’s okay, you didn’t know. It’s just three days, it’ll pass quickly,” Jiang Ci comforted them, “Besides, Sister Dongmei’s medical skills are very good.”

Lu Dongmei nodded, “The medicinal herbs provided by Boss Jiang are sufficient. Treating such a disease isn’t difficult.”

Hearing this, Zheng Wan was instantly filled with hope and repeatedly expressed his gratitude.

Although Jiang Ci knew her current body wouldn’t be infected by the virus, she still obediently moved into the ward on the second floor.

She and Lin Fei each had a room, while Zheng Wan and his wife shared one.

Before she had come here, Song Jinchuan had been sent by her to handle other matters and was unaware of her quarantine.

By the time he found out, Jiang Ci could only speak to him through a pane of glass.

Hearing that she had been exposed to an acute infectious disease and needed to quarantine, Song Jinchuan’s frown deepened.
