RMHM Ch 4 — My Funeral

Just who in the world had the chance to attend their own funeral?

My body was really right in front of me right now.

My body, which would be adorned and displayed for 100 days for all to see.

Most of the royal family performed funerals that way, even for their spouses.

The sons and daughters of God.

I didn’t know whether it was to create an illusion to others or if it was just that the imperial family were proud as the chosen ones and couldn’t hold the same funerals as the other nobility.

I still remembered the funeral of Her Majesty, the Empress Lettina, who had died when I was just a child.

At that time, that person was also beautifully adorned.

Then, as she was surrounded by flowers and placed in a glass coffin, her funeral was then held for 100 days.

The scene that was both sorrowful and beautiful was still vividly fresh in my mind, however, the body that was enclosed in the coffin was now my own body.

As the glass coffin got closer, I unwittingly lowered the mesh that was attached to my hat down to the tip of my nose.

In the first place, my face was not known to many nobles, unless it was someone that I had already been close to before.

It was my husband, Novian, who after my debutante, had quickly rushed to get married.

Although it was nice to have Blair’s refreshingly healthy body, it wasn’t until this solemn and gigantic funeral that I started to realise and feel that this was my reality.

‘Is God playing a prank on me?’

However, this reality that seemed as if it was just a dream was not a situation one had to like.

This was God’s own prank.

It was also an extremely spiteful prank.

‘Is God playing a prank on me?’

However, this reality that seemed as if it was just a dream was not a situation one had to like.

This was God’s own prank.

It was also an extremely spiteful prank.

‘Ah—!’

Amongst the people who sang hymns and prayed, I saw ‘me’ with my eyes closed in a glass coffin, surrounded by all kinds of flowers.

A pale corpse that was covered with beautiful things, with only her face exposed and eyes that were closed.

It was exactly like the funeral of Her Majesty, the late Empress Lettina.

‘I’m dead, I’m really dead. I’ve really died.’

The black dress and black hat that I was wearing. The black mesh in front of my face too.

However, at most, it wasn’t just those things that were pitch black, but my heart too.

It literally felt like my heart was burning black.

“By the laws of Ronta, the 100 day funeral procession will be held by the royal family and their spouses.”

“Glory be to God.”

“Glory be to the deceased.”

The people prayed whilst wishing for glory that would mean nothing to the dead.

I frantically searched for my husband with blurry eyes.

Novian was standing tall in front of the glass coffin, just staring blankly at it.

“No…!”

I instinctively tried to call out his name, my eyes meeting his when he suddenly raised his head.

His name no longer came out of my mouth.

He must have clearly seen the face of this ‘Blair’, but Novian immediately turned his eyes back to ‘me’ who was in the glass coffin.

‘I’m so stupid.’

What exactly did I want to confirm with him for me to call out his name?

Although I thought it could have just been the ignorant maid’s pathetic misunderstanding, I still couldn’t let go of that thin strand of doubt that remained in my heart.

When my eyes had met that cold gaze I had not even received once when I was in Adrienne’s body, my face turned white with fright.

Then suddenly.

“Urk…”

Novian began to cry.

As it was the first time I had seen him express his emotions so clearly like that, I merely stared at him blankly from where I was, squeezed amongst the other noble ladies.

Until the priest’s long prayers had finished.

Until the other people had opened the eyes that they had tightly closed.

The nobles bowed their heads in condolence at Novian’s face which was full of sorrow.

I couldn’t help but stare, dumbfounded at the people behind him who came to my funeral.

It was difficult to estimate how many people had visited this grave before getting onto their carriage and riding off again.

‘Was I such an incredible person?’

As soon as I debuted into the social world, I caught the eye of Novian and had an early wedding, suffering from an illness the entire time, and whilst living in a mansion, died in vain as soon as I turned 22.

Most of the weeping people were all those who had no relation to me at all.

Perhaps amongst this many people, not even one person would truly grieve for my death.

What was even more funny was that because of this mistress’ body, which seemed to resemble my exact face and body shape, I couldn’t even believe it when I saw my original body in a glass coffin.

Although I thought I had already accepted my death as a reality, it still took me a long time to get used to it.

Novian was right in front of me. Right here, I was still alive and breathing.

For me, this was also a reality.

As long as someone would just call me Adrienne, not that corpse…

I could’ve even accepted it if someone had insisted that Novian and I were just the Grand Duke and Duchess, here to attend someone else’s funeral.

But there was still no one that called me Adrienne.

[ / / / ]

By the time the Prince and Princess of the Piretta Duchy arrived at the Trovica’s graveyard, half of the guests had already left a while ago. 1

The deceased Duchess’ older brother, Prince Gregory, immediately felt his legs lose their strength as he almost sank to the ground while his wife, Bianca, held onto him tightly.

However, she too, behind the black mesh in front of her, had a face that was soaked wet with tears.

“Rienne…! Ah—! Ah—!”

“Honey!”

In the end, Gregory collapsed as soon as he had arrived in front of the glass coffin.

Bianca screamed lowly whilst also covering her mouth with a hand.

Pale, young and beautiful.

Tears couldn’t help but fill his eyes, threatening to burst as soon as the sad looking corpse entered his line of sight.

“You, you son of a bitch!”

“Honey! Heok…honey, stop it!”

“Save my little sister! Save my Rienne!”

“Honey! We of all people should know that he tried his best!”

Gregory Piretta, who was crying and weeping loudly, was as boisterous as the rumours said.

The remaining guests merely stayed silent, as if it wasn’t a big deal.

At least since it was a funeral, this sort of indecent behaviour could be forgiven.

Whether it be nobles or imperial families, in front of the dead, all kinds of people would laugh, cry, and make various reactions.

Novian Trovica, who was also known as the Emperor’s aide, already had a face soaked with tears, and as expected, the Grand Duchess’ older brother, Gregory, was also in the exact same position as him.

After a long and meaningless fight, Gregory finally embraced the Duke, who was still standing and weeping, swallowing his tears.

As the hymns continued to resound softly, the prayers of the elderly women grew louder.

“Lord God—. Please bring glory to the dead!”

In unison, they all let their black mesh veils drop down in front of their eyes as they all started praying for the Grand Duchess Adrienne, whose face they had never even seen before.

Soon, guests and condolence wreaths sent by the imperial family had arrived.

They placed the splendid flowers in front of the coffin of the deceased and proceeded to engrave the Lord’s cross.

One way or another, the Grand Duchess was still a grand duchess.

Other than that, although the funeral was nothing special, Adrienne, who was amongst the elderly women, was struggling to control her weeping.

Tears were already dripping down her face due to Novian’s sobbing, so when Gregory and Bianca also joined him in weeping, she couldn’t bear it any longer.

[ / / / ]

She had died in early winter.

A few days had passed since her death and now the night wind was sharp enough to cut flesh.

The air in the graveyard felt colder than any other place.

The people disappeared one by one, as Novian was gone all night in order to supervise the people moving the glass coffin which contained my body, the Grand Duchess.

But he would come any time now.

He was a person who once assigned with a task, would take responsibility for it until it was finished. Therefore, there was no way he could go back to his dukedom without checking the barely finished cleanup of my grave.

My stupidly confident face was already numb. My cheek also hurt, as if someone had scratched it.

My face, which had been wet from crying had long been frozen by the night wind.

‘Come quickly, Noah…’

I moved far away from my shining white grave stone.

Although no one could easily spot me, I was still in a position where I could clearly see the entrance of the graveyard.

It seemed as if the guard who was guarding the entrance of the cemetery, was ready to kick me out at any time, so I stood, hiding behind the well-pruned bushes in the garden.

In an empty cemetery, with only the company of the person who was guarding the entrance, I continued to wait for my husband like that.

I wonder how long I waited for.

As I kneaded my hands which had already become white due to the cold and continued to get colder, like a miracle, the violent sound of galloping horse hooves suddenly cut through the heavy silence.

I stood up immediately with a frozen body and poked my face out of the bush.

The cemetery guard saluted someone in a disciplined manner.

The person, who wasn’t even sitting up straight on their horse, jumped down and entered the cemetery, his figure casting a large shadow, as if he was a giant phantom from hell.

Is it Noah?

My expectations, which had risen, gradually faded away.

The man, who looked like a military commander, was large enough to be overwhelming, even from this distance as he got closer and closer to the gas lamp illuminating the area around the tombstone.

It wasn’t Novian,

It wasn’t his calm gait, but a gait that looked violent and urgent.

The stranger, who had driven their horses wildly enough to break the silence, stood motionlessly in front of the tombstone in silence.

It was a silence that hung heavier than when I was alone.

As the clouds covering the moon drifted away, light spilled onto the back of the man.

I wasn’t in the mood to admire anything, but his blonde hair that shone violently in the night pricked my eyes.

At first glance, his hair looked silver.

Who could it be?

Although he was not shivering in the cold like me, the man stood there for a long time, staring blankly at the tombstone that was missing a corpse, as if he was also frozen.

Even though I could only see his back profile, the feeling of despair seemed to flow down his broad back.

And then he stumbled.

“!”

Unconsciously, I immediately stretched out a hand, as if to stop him.

The man, who had a strong physique and was so tall that I would have to look up at him if I got closer, immediately slumped to the bare ground on his knees and managed to sit upright.

I felt the blood rush through my body quickly as I watched carefully.

The man, who had been tracing the tombstone that didn’t have anything but my name engraved on it, sat down as if he was delirious, his shoulders instantly beginning to shake.

Was he crying or laughing?

‘Or was it both?’

As time went by, the man whose shoulders had shook strangely, looked more and more like someone who was angry.

His hair shone like stars as his body shook.

I approached him little by little, as if I was bewitched.

Aside from Novian and my family, no one else had shown any emotion in front of this useless tombstone.

‘Who are you?’

I wanted to ask him.

In the dead of night, whilst there was no one around, urging his horse so urgently, his shoulders trembling…

Walking toward him as if I was bewitched, I stopped abruptly in the middle.

‘What are you going to do if I walk closer?’

This person was someone who knew ‘me’.

If he didn’t know me, he couldn’t have possibly been so sad.

But how was I possibly meant to explain my current situation?

Rather than a sudden surge of curiosity, I was afraid of how other people would react to the current me if they happened to see me, my heart leaping in fright.

I took a step back naturally onto the path I had taken to come in.

And it was when the sound of the sobbing man’s breathing suddenly stopped and cut off, his low voice that pierced the silence making my footsteps stop once again.

“…Adrienne?”

[1] 소공작: the heir to a duchy/the son of a duke. the only english equivalent i could for this was a ‘hereditary duke’ but even that i feel couldn’t properly convey the meaning so i’m sticking to ‘prince’ or ‘princess’ for the heirs as it was a commonly used title for the duke’s children as well.

IBOMLEW Ch 1 — Becoming the Obsessive Male Lead’s Ex-Wife (I)

A woman with black hair that fluttered down to her waist and exquisite blue eyes that shone like stars, was sitting in the centre of the garden.

She was the Duchess Carlisle.

She was beautiful rather than pretty, arrogant rather than docile; she was a goddess who was overflowing with decadent beauty.

Several middle aged aristocrats who were sitting across from each other, couldn’t hide their impatience with their awkward expressions as they sat in front of the woman.

The Carlisle Dukedom, to which they were tied to by blood, was a branch from the imperial family that was founded by Ervin Carlisle, who received the dukedom from the 30th emperor as his youngest prince.

Contrary to the emperor proclaiming that the family would be blessed with fertility, starting from the first duke who only had one son in his old age, the Carlisle Dukedom had barely managed to make it to the 6th generation.

From generation to generation, although the Dukes of Carlisle were all married at an earlier age compared to other nobles, each time a new head would succeed their predecessor, their relatives would still struggle with concerns regarding their successors and giving birth to a child.

This too was the case for the current Duke Carlisle.

They, the blood relatives of the Carlisle household, had just yesterday, had a conversation with Duke Carlisle that in the end, had amounted to nothing.

When they went to meet the Duchess, they suddenly recalled yesterday’s discussion.

The topic of the conversation had been that there was no heir to succeed Duke Carlisle.

And it had been like that for a full four years already.

To the relatives who had questioned him about his heir, or lack thereof, Duke Fervin Carlisle had shot them all with a piercing glare.

“The marriage period, which is an agreement between two countries, is not over yet, but everyone is already so impatient.”

“There are concerns as there hasn’t been any news or signs of an heir during this marriage of four years. If you are not on good terms with your wife, please tell us. Or have you reached the point where you can no longer bear to put up with your wife? If that’s the case…”

“I think you should ask Irwen this, not me. Since it seems as if she’s always avoiding me.”

A shadow of anxiety flashed across Duke Carlisle’s handsome face.

His shiny platinum hair was nervously messed up, and a shadow was cast in his sharp green eyes.

The men all nodded their heads, acting as if they knew how he felt.

It was a well-known fact in the Carlisle family that the Duchess of Carlisle was always anxious, and although she would never take the initiative to meet her husband, would occasionally hurl abusive language from time to time.

There were times when the servants had occasionally said that she would devour her husband with her vicious gaze.

“Who can withstand the Duchess’ fiery temper? We all know it too well. We can file a petition with the Emperor, urging him to allow a divorce and pursue a remarriage with someone else. Since everyone knows that the Carlisle Dukedom’s sons have always been extremely valued, His Majesty would also…”

“A divorce within five years is a diplomatic disrespect. There is still a year left, yet you’re telling me to violate this national treaty?”

hi! i’ve picked up a new webnovel !! it’s currently being serialised by naver webnovel, click here to read the synopsis!

“A divorce within five years is a diplomatic disrespect. There is still a year left, yet you’re telling me to violate this national treaty?”

“But the situation is that you need to see an heir as soon as possible! From generation to generation, the Dukes of Carlisle have rarely seen the birth of a successor after the age of twenty-five, and Your Highness is turning twenty-five this year! Even the astrologers have said that if you don’t have any children by next year, there will be no permanent heirs. Therefore, you must meet a proper duchess and have a child quickly.”

“But I know that I was born to my father when he was forty.”

“However, the former Duke had already made love with several ladies before that…he even made friends. But the Duke continues to lead a life of integrity and abstinence, like a monk…”

The vassals all sighed as they watched Duke Carlisle’s figure.

Everyone in the empire knew about the wild beauty of a beast that was hidden within his neat uniform, so why couldn’t he make full use of it?

Just look at that sharp neckline, the strong and firm muscles that were revealed by his sleeves that were rolled up to his forearms, and the dizzying pectoral muscles that hid underneath the collar that had been folded downwards.

There were hundreds of women who were eager to enter his gaze, yet it was still a work in progress.

Of course, the fact that Duke Carlisle had a wife who stabbed at him like a knife, was also a work in progress.

To put it simply, it was not hard for him to seduce a woman and make a child with her if he really put his mind to it.

However, Duke Carlisle, like always, would respond indifferently to the lectures of his relatives.

“I still have the ability to sire a child. It is just not the right time to welcome a successor yet.”

“But the astrologer…”

“I have already heard it once, I don’t want to hear it anymore, so get out!”

In the end, receiving only Duke Carlisle’s fiery wrath, the men of the Carlisle family left without seeing any results.

And today, the Duchess Carlisle had called them all together.

The Carlisle clansmen all gulped collectively.

The Duchess, who had called them to announce something important, had a different temperament from her usual brutal one.

[ / / / ]

The people only sipped tea for a while.

After a moment of heavy silence, one of the vassals finally spoke up.

“Madam, may I ask why you wanted to see us?”

Irwen Lillias, the Duchess who had married in from a foreign country, nonchalantly turned her gaze away from the teacup and onto the men.

The middle-aged men all trembled at her cold gaze.

‘What sort of orders is she going to give out today?’

Until now, every time the Duchess called for them altogether, the reason for doing so was always clear.

‘Orders to collect and offer gold to the Verma Duchy?’

‘Orders to collect and offer precious jewels to the Verma Duchy?’

‘Orders to collect and offer the specialties of the Carlisle estate to the Verma Duchy?’

Wasn’t she the Duchess who always wanted to give everything to her maternal home, the Verma Duchy? 1

‘Why does His Highness, the Duke, who knows of his wife’s illegal actions, still choose to turn a blind eye to her?’

Just as everyone let out a sigh, Irwen spoke up, as if nothing had happened.

“Please stop offering monthly specialties to the Verma Duchy from now on.”

“…Sorry?”

“I told you to stop sending all the jewels, specialty items, and gold so far, to the Verma Duchy every month. And tell the peasants in particular, that this will never happen again. In the meantime, please forgive me for acting so foolishly in regards to my maternal home.”

The men glanced at each other and communicated with their eyes.

It was extremely good news, but at the same time, it terrified them as well.

‘Why is the Duchess suddenly having such rational thoughts?’

‘Did she finally find out that it’s illegal to pay tribute to the Verma Duchy without going through the normal process?’

‘Did the Duke have a word with her?’

‘No, madam is definitely not the type to listen to others.’

‘Then why did she suddenly make such a normal decision all of a sudden?’

They were all men who were bursting with curiosity, but they still bowed their heads when they met the frosty eyes of the Duchess.

“I will carry out your order.”

“I’ve finished speaking, you may take your leave now.”

Irwen sighed after watching the men dash out.

All the tension drained from her body as she rubbed her stiff neck.

Her disheveled appearance right now contrasted greatly with her charismatic charade earlier.

“I feel refreshed now that I’ve stopped it. I should be able to survive if I stop all the stupid things she did before. “

[ / / / ]

It was not too long ago that I was living an ordinary but tiring life.

In my previous life, it was not an uncommon occurrence for me to faint once or twice due to my irregular meals, non-stop part time jobs and arduous daily routine that continued until dawn.

But this time, it was different.

I felt like I was going to die when I fainted, but when I finally managed to get up, I sensed that something had changed.

The fragrant smell of flowers that tickled the tip of my nose, the luxurious pajamas that I was wearing, and the soft blanket that hugged my body.

It was the first time I had ever seen everything so western-inclined and old fashioned.

I looked around in bewilderment at the splendour that seemed to only be described in the noble mansions of novels.

The moonlight shone through the cracks of the slightly opened curtains, illuminating the room.

Confused, a large bed surrounded by red curtains, a huge blanket covering me, and a man kneeling at the edge of the bed, resting his face on one arm at an angle came into my sight.

I squinted my eyes which were not used to the darkness around me.

His sleeves were rolled up to his forearms, his slender upper body that was revealed by his unbuttoned shirt and his luscious platinum blonde hair that moved regularly with his breathing, looking as if he had fallen asleep.

Full of vigilance, I rushed to the other side of the bed in order to avoid him and covered myself with a duvet.

Everything was confusing to me.

What was it with this western-style bedroom, why did I come here, and who was this man who was sleeping on the same side of the bed as me?

It was then, when I had unconsciously begun trembling in the bed, full of anxiety.

The sound of the man getting up along with a yawn that seemed to be held back sounded from outside of the duvet.

As if he was taking care of a child, the man carefully removed the duvet from my head with his hand.

I closed my eyes and stayed as still as a dead mouse.

After stroking my hair for a while, his heavy voice resounded.

“Just wake up, please…”

There was a mixture of resignation, exasperation, affection, and obsession in the voice that sounded.

There was a tenderness in the hand that had lifted off the blanket and straightened out the pillow, as I started to wonder who the man was, still keeping my eyes tightly closed.

As I trembled with anxiety, all sorts of thoughts rushed through my head.

Judging by the good-looking voice I heard earlier, I could roughly assume that he probably would’ve had a good-looking appearance to match as well.

I closed my eyes and just waited for him to leave.

As I tried to figure out what was going on and what to do when he left, hot lips suddenly landed on my cheek.

I opened my eyes in surprise, my eyes making contact with the man’s.

“Irwen?”

The moment his dazzling cold green eyes, as if shaking, locked onto me.

The moment the name ‘Irwen’ was engraved deeply in my heart.

Heavy anxiety and confusion struck me, as my vision suddenly faded into black.

[1] the korean word is actually 친정, which is a word that refers to the former home of a married woman, and since parental home doesn’t sound quite right, i’ll be referring to it as ‘maternal home’ from now on.

IWBMTL Ch 205

The whole country was in a state of disarray.

It was only a natural reaction to the fact that the First Prince had attempted to kill the Emperor but was caught in the act by the imperial knights.

The nobles also became restless.

In the meantime, those who had been currying for favour behind Astana were stunned and anxious to be seen well by Perez.

Although he was the first and legitimate prince that was sired by the Empress, it was all useless in the face of the fearsome charges of attempted assassination and treason.

“There are nobles lining up in front of the Second Prince’s Poylac Palace every day.”

Bate reported to me.

“Even now, they’re still trying to gain favour and follow behind Perez. But I don’t know if I can say that.”

Perez will not push them away.

He is not a crown prince who cuts off those who choose not to follow him.

But he’ll definitely cut off the heads of some of those who had opposed him.

“How many people still remain on the Empress’ side these days?”

“There are a lot more than we expected.”

Bate answered my question while shrugging his shoulders.

“First off, right now, the power of the few remaining loyal households, including Angenas and their vassal families, are still quite strong. There are also many who have been married into the Angenas family through the arrangement of the Empress.”

“You’re saying those that can no longer sever their connections with the First Prince are still standing firm.”

“There is a rumour going around that the First Prince was out of his mind when he tried to kill the Emperor. The amount of people that also want to take the external factors into account are also not small in number.”

“So, was he in his right mind?”

I can still clearly remember Astana’s face from that day, when he was rushing forward with a knife.

He definitely must have been out of his mind.

Sure enough.

Bate shook his head.

“He was drunk on magic. To the point where he would not have been able to recognise his mother or father.”

“But it’s probably not easy for someone to get so drunk on magic to that extent. Am I right?”

Bate nodded this time.

Even if it was Madman’s Forest or catching a monster, it was not easy for magic to spread to that extent.

Furthermore, for it to be near the entrance of Madman’s Forest as well.

“Could he have possibly taken some sort of medicine that could absorb magic…”

The fact that Bate says it like that means that he can’t reveal the exact source, but there was definitely information that had come in about it.

“Medicine you say…”

It was Perez.

Even from the beginning, it was him who had proposed to hold a hunting competition in Madman’s Forest.

Preparing the gold armour for the Emperor was also one of his requests.

“Did you identify the monster I told you about last time?”

“Yes. Kangpara is a monster with long claws, and like crows, has a habit of collecting items that sparkle.”

As always. It went according to my expectations.

Perez had deliberately led the Emperor down that path in order to swap his own armour.

“Seems like it’s finally started.”

Perez’s revenge.

In his previous life, his revenge was long and thorough.

Starting from the crown prince and working his way up from there, he returned all the pain he had suffered.

However, I had never thought of stopping Perez.

No, instead, I was planning to help him.

I turned to look back at Clerivan and said.

“Sir Clerivan. It seems like the time to use ‘that’ is approaching soon. Make sure you’ve prepared for it properly.”

“Yes. I’ll move it to the Lombardy mansion.”

Clerivan replied with a relaxed smile on his face.

Emperor Yovanes, unable to sleep, poured alcohol into a glass with a haggard complexion.

He drinks to the point of unconsciousness and falls asleep under the influence of the alcohol.

Then, when he gets up the next morning, he reaches for the liquor bottle once again.

It was the recurring daily routine of the Emperor after returning from the hunting competition.

Eventually, it reached a point where a servant took the initiative to contact Rulac separately.

“Have a glass.”

Yovanes said, putting down a glass of liquor in front of Rulac.

“Are you drinking this kind of hard liquor every day?”

Rulac asked while frowning as his forehead wrinkled.

“I can’t sleep well unless I drink this.”

A weak Yovanes replied helplessly.

Even so, he quickly poured the golden liquor into his mouth and swallowed it in one gulp.

“I wish I could convey some good news to Your Majesty, but…”

Rulac broke the silence and started to talk, putting the wine glass back down without tasting it.

“You need to pay attention to the public sentiment that’s going on outside the palace.”

Emperor Yovanes frowned at the truth in Rulac’s words and grimaced, pressing down on his temple.

It meant that he didn’t want to hear it.

But Rulac continued to speak, disregarding the Emperor’s actions.

“The rumour regarding the First Prince’s assassination attempt on you has spread, making the public anxious. Furthermore…”

Rulac deliberately dragged out the end of his sentence to incite Yovanes’ curiousity.

“The story of the Brown family has become a hot topic again.”

“The Brown family?”

Yovanes, who was already pouring his second glass, suddenly lifted his eyes.

“What exactly is the rumor?”

“It was the old rumour about the Angenas household attacking the Brown household and killing the Brown Patriarch more than forty years ago.”

“So what exactly is that old rumour…!?”

Rulac gave Yovanes a look that seemed to ask, ‘do you really want to know?’

After a moment of silence, Rulac opened his mouth.

“Isn’t the First Prince, who is the legitimate heir, going crazy and trying to kill the Emperor, a punishment and retribution for betraying and abandoning the Brown household, who were loyal subjects long ago…? …Well, that’s the rumour.”

“What sort of nonsense!”

Yovanes was outraged.

“But that’s not something I did, is it?! That’s something that the late emperor did!”

Yovanes felt wronged.

It had been the late emperor’s decision to support and back the Angenas household, which he had remained close with since the time he had been a prince.

So in some way, they had turned a blind eye to the ousting of the Browns and the establishment of the Angenas in the West, joining their children, Yovanes and Lavini in marriage afterwards.

Everything had been the late emperor’s choice! Why should Yovanes himself accept this curse?

Already burdened by constant appearances in his dreams and trouble sleeping, he couldn’t believe that he had also been passed such a troublesome thing.

He was like a man who stood in the way of his child, even in his death.

“How would the ignorant know any better?”

Rulac appeared to take Yovanes’ side soothingly and said.

“It’s just the hushed whispers are saying that the royal family is receiving retribution for abandoning the Brown family. The Brown family which is famous among the commoners for their imperial swordsmanship.”

“Hmph.”

Yovanes snorted.

“I understand why your father felt so bitter about the Brown family. The Brown family whose imperial swordsmanship excited the populace, the Brown family, what a sight.”

The jealousy of the emperor is scary.

For the Brown family, the price of that jealousy was the destruction of their family.

“But under the current circumstances, there wouldn’t be anyone who could quell such rumours as quickly as the Brown family.”

“What do you mean?”

Yovanes, the emperor who hated receiving hate, perked his ears up.

“Reinstate the Brown family. If you do that, the futile rumours about the Angenas would also calm down.”

“The Brown family you say…”

Yovanes asked Rulac whilst rubbing his chin.

“Wouldn’t that be difficult? I mean, reinstating them now, after a few decades have already passed.”

“As long as Your Majesty brings up the Brown family as a topic of conversation at the next aristocratic meeting, everything else will fall into place”

The Second Prince behind him, that wild dog would take care of it.

There must have been a plan to that extent when the Brown family had been snapped over.

“At least while discussing the Brown family, wouldn’t talk of the royal family be blown over?”

Rulac smiled leisurely.

Yovanes, who had been agonising over the issue for a while, replied shortly after.

“Okay, I’ll do as you say.”

It just so happened that a noble meeting was also scheduled to be held in a few days, so the timing also made it an appropriate decision.

“What are you planning to do about the matter pertaining to the First Prince?”

At Rulac’s question, Yovanes downed another glass again.

It was because the bloodshot eyes of the late emperor, who had brought down a curse suddenly came to his mind.

Yovanes, who merely shrugged his shoulders, asked Rulac in response.

“Do you know why I left the Second Prince in the hands of the Empress?”

Rulac had already answered that question in his mind, ever since the day he had first seen the Second Prince, living in a dilapidated detached palace.

“Probably because the Second Prince greatly resembles the late emperor.”

“That’s right. That’s why I’ve been keeping him far away from me, ever since he was a kid.”

The truth was that it was actually the First Prince that was the product of that curse.

Yovanes, as if he didn’t want to think about it anymore, shook one hand in a swatting motion and said.

“I intend to leave this matter to the Second Prince. After all, he was there with me when it happened, so he’ll be able to investigate the details properly. I don’t want to worry about it.”

Oh dear, bless your soul.

Rulac clenched his fist tightly in an effort to quell his sudden urge to laugh.

When he saw the foolish owner of a fish store entrust it to a cat in front of him, he felt like laughing. who left the fish shop with the cat in front of me, he felt like his sides were going to split from laughing.

• • •

Crash!

A loud crash came from the room where the First Prince was currently being detained in.

“Medicine! Bring me the medicine! Ahhhhh!”

Desperate screams also leaked through the crevices of the door.

At around early evening when Astana had woken up, ever since then, he had started screaming like that to no end.

“W-What should we do…”

A prince was still a prince, even if he was imprisoned for an unforgivable sin.

Two maids who were assigned to clean up the mess of such a prince became anxious and were at a loss at what to do once they heard the sounds that had leaked out from the inside.

“I’ve already given you all the medicine though…”

“S-Should I let the palace know?”

It was when the maids whose eyes were shaking nervously because they couldn’t stand it, that someone said.

“There’s no need.”

A low voice was heard from behind them.

“Your Highness, the Second Prince!”

The maids’ faces brightened immediately once they saw Perez with the imperial knights.

“You can come back tomorrow morning. Go back.”

At Perez’s command, the maids ran out as if they were fleeing and didn’t want to be caught again.

“Let’s head in.”

Lord Sloan was leading them.

As soon as the door opened, Astana’s shouts broke loose.

“Hey! You! Do you think you can tie me up like this and leave with your neck intact?! Let me go! Now! Argh!”

Astana, who had one foot tied to the bed, contorted his whole body and screamed.

“I’ll kill you for insulting me like this…!”

Astana’s shouting stopped shortly after Perez entered the room.

“Astana Nerempe Durelli. We’ll start the interrogation of your failed assassination attempt on the Emperor and treason.”

woahhhh shit went dOWNNN we rlly get a look in how dumb and muddleheaded the emperor is, like, seriously, when rulac said oh dear, bless your soul i literally had to to stop tling and dieD SLDKFJDF rulac old man’s sarcasm is seriously too much HAHAHA

RMHM Ch 3 — The Healthy Body of Blair Acacia

Marge, a maid and longtime servant of the Count Acacia’s residence, narrowed her eyes as she watched the mansion’s hostess.

Watching Blair, who was reading an issue of the ‘Empire Daily‘ that the butler had hastily rescued.

Exactly. That ‘Empire Daily’.

The newspaper that you had tossed away, mockingly saying that it was full of crap while laughing.

When the Count wasn’t home, you had asked why they still kept leaving them at the front of our house and to just use it as firewood; that newspaper.

‘You’re definitely crazy.’

Walking on both legs with no problem, then suddenly stopping and rejoicing.

Asking for a glass of water and saying ‘thank you’ with thrilled eyes once its handed over.

Besides, normally the Countess Acacia sits in the parlour sipping tea and has sudden mood swings, so since when did she start reading proper newspapers and not gossip…

As expected, when she turned her eyes to the entrance of the drawing room, the other maids all came rushing in and started whispering.

Just the combination of Blair and the newspaper was enough for the maids to start talking.

“Didn’t someone deliver a shopping catalogue?”

“I’m pretty sure there’s a news article of a big fire or a flood somewhere.”

“There could be. If you’re the madam, there’s a chance she’d like that.”

The whispers were barely audible but Marge hastily pursued them.

Whether it was hatred or affection, either way, bad rumours about the hostess of the mansion shouldn’t be spreading anyways.

There was also unexpectedly, another reason for her to be worried again.

Contrary to the fact that she had only been worried about the ‘obviously unlearned’ Countess, she now also worried about Blair, who had been sitting in her room for several days, and suddenly began to ask strange questions.

‘W-What exactly is my name?’

‘Where is Count Acacia?’

‘Are you, are you perhaps my nanny?’

Et cetera, she asked very silly questions such as these.

But it was also asked very cautiously.

It was a good thing that she had asked Marge when she was alone, otherwise, if the young and loose lipped maids had heard her question, the rumour might have already been spread throughout the capital, that the ‘Countess Acacia is crazy’.

“Marge.”

Hence why Marge was now very nervous when she heard the voice that was calling for her.

She made sure that the drawing room’s door was closed properly, then walked over to Blair with her mouth tightly shut.

After reading the Empire Daily, Blair was silent for a while before calling her.

‘What kind of nonsense will she say this time…’

“Am I…am I the mistress of Novian Trovica?”

‘What kind of nonsense will she say this time…’

“Am I…am I the mistress of Novian Trovica?”

“!”

Oh my god, oh my god.

Marge quickly glanced around the empty drawing room before lowering her voice to reply.

“Are you finally going to tell me the truth?”

“…the truth?”

Blair’s beautiful pale green eyes stared at her intently.

Marge nodded and whispered next to her.

“Are you in that sort of relationship with the grand duke or something?”

“…w-why did you think so?”

Blair’s tone of speech, which was usually no different from that of a commoner’s, had somehow changed into an aristocratic one.

Like Count Acacia.

Marge felt a strange sense of dissonance, but was afraid that Blair, who had suddenly become cautious, would keep her mouth shut even tighter.

“I mean, if you weren’t his mistress, there’s no way you would be so interested in the grand duchess’ personal affairs, right?”

“…I did?”

“Of course, and the grand duke would also frequently send over pendants or dresses even…”

“He…he did.”

Blair’s voice drifted off and cooled a notch lower.

Marge pondered for a long time, wondering if she had said something wrong.

In fact, Marge had already long established her theory as a fact.

In the morning, she had even sneakily wanted to see how the grand duke’s mistress would react to the death of the grand duchess and whether she thought it was good or not.

“Even now, you still affectionately call the Grand Duke ‘he’[1]…oh right, madam. Isn’t that right? Would the Grand Duke invite the madam to the funeral and take care of you like this simply because his vassal, your husband was absent?”

Count Acacia was busy with the affairs of the estate, so the most difficult thing for him to do was coming back to the mansion in the capital.

When a vassal was absent, their spouse would then naturally be under the protection of the lord, the Grand Duke.

No wonder he could personally invite that woman to the Grand Duchess’ funeral. However…

“Well, seeing as how the Count turns a blind eye to any outings I go on, it doesn’t seem like you are in a normal relationship either. Now, stop hiding it from me and just tell me the truth.”

After thinking about it for a moment, I sent the shocking reply that I would attend the funeral to the servant.

Grand Duke, you dare?

If the reason Blair can do that isn’t because she’s his mistress, then what the heck is it?

However, as a long time servant that has served in this house, Marge was both uneasy and unfamiliar with the Grand Duke’s character.

Because it was not likely for the Grand Duke to display very much patience toward his mistress.

‘I need to dress her up quickly and get the carriage ready…’

She was suddenly worried about the possibility of getting fired by the Grand Duke!

However, there was no sign of urgency or haste found in Blair, who was the party involved.

“It seems as if you don’t know either.”

‘I mean, this isn’t something that directly involves me anyways, so how is a mere maid like me supposed to know?!’

There is a limit to how much strangeness people are able to find acceptable in a certain situation.

Marge clenched her teeth and gathered her patience, nodding.

“That’s right, no one can tell me the right answer in this mansion. But for now, I have no choice but to accept his invitation and go to the funeral.”

No, so just what kind of relationship do the two of you have?

Furthermore, although the Grand Duke himself had personally contacted her to tell her that the Grand Duchess was dead, you’re giving a vassal’s wife the right to attend her funeral?

All sort of words clambered around through her chest, but Marge held them all back.

Because she had been quiet for the past few days, it was possible that she had forgotten what Blair’s temper was like before.

Before she could throw even a single object, Marge quietly chose to help with her makeup.

Then, she paid close attention to the unfamiliar behaviour of Blair, who was constantly fiddling with her fingers in anxiety and feeling very sluggish.

[ / / / ]

I was comfortable with my maid, Marge, as well as the other maids who all folded themselves in half and bowed 90 degrees.

Even if someone had accidentally made eye contact with me, our eyes would meet and the immediately dart away.

Not only that, but every time I was about to say something, they all had a very tense look on their faces.

‘Blair Acacia was a very scary person.’

And with good reason.

My whole body was full of energy and strength. Even if I ran around and yelled energetically.

It had been a long time since I had worn anything other than slippers, however, when I wore the shoes, my body did not stumble or falter at all.

My hair, which had been falling out, one by one, strand by strand, did not fall out, no matter how many times I combed it.

“It’s all done, my lady.”

A young maid named Yona said with a bright and blushing red face.

I stood in front of the full length mirror, a familiar face, but an unfamiliar body had appeared in its reflection.

It was strange to see such a good looking face with a decent amount of fat on it.

There was never a single cough, nor a single seizure that interrupted me whilst waking up, eating or dressing.

“…I look well.”

“Sorry?”

Thinking those words as a reproach, Yona’s face turned turned deathly pale.

But instead, I just laughed happily.

How much had I prayed and prayed for a body like this?

After alternating between confused and dazed states all morning, I finally accepted that this wasn’t a ‘dream’, no a ‘fantasy’.

All the newspapers had the sad news of Adrienne Trovica’s death on their front cover, a situation which had been the last thing I had I remembered.

Serious seizures due to chronic illness and then finally arriving at a sudden death.

I was confused as to whether my dead soul had entered Blair Acacia’s body or if I was originally Blair Acacia, but had a mental illness.

But no matter what I thought, I was still Adrienne.

I took a step closer to the mirror.

The rosy cheeks were lovely.

There was only one reason why I didn’t go crazy, even after going through such an absurd situation.

It was because this woman’s face looked awfully similar to my original face, it was enough to give me goosebumps.

It was just like the appearance I had always dreamed of. It was as if I was still dreaming.

‘Did God happen to give me another chance?’

I couldn’t erase the feeling, as if I had been reborn, leaving behind my sick and diseased body and gaining an identical, but healthy body.

It was a phenomenon that was unheard of, but I was experiencing it now.

But what if my soul in this body wanted to return to my dead body?

‘No way.’

Rather, it was the very feeling that I wanted to block.

I felt a little sorry for the owner of this body, Blair.

Now I ate alone, walked alone. Every time I did something without any assistance, the feeling of independence I felt was thrilling.

At first, I couldn’t believe that my husband and the owner of this body had a strange relationship.

Novian, who always thinks of and puts his own reputation first, could never have done this. And what was it that about me, who possessed such a weak body, that he loved so much, that despite knowing about my situation, still made me the Grand Duchess? Was it pity?

I laughed out loud when I imagined a man who was too busy to even stop by the capital even once, let alone accompanying his mistress on a leisurely date.

The person I knew would never be a person like that.

What about dating? He was a person who was half crazy about work.

At first, I had heard that during the social gatherings, there were many women who secretly talked about Novian’s attractive and charming mistress.

However, it was a rumour that Novian was unaware of due to how busy he was trying to solve incidents and wandering around under the orders of the Imperial Family, so I had put it to the back of my mind.

[ / / / ]

I got into the carriage with a strange mixture of emotions, I felt both happiness and sadness.

It has been a long time since I had last dressed up and come out of the mansion.

Arriving at the Trovica cemetery, I calmed my pounding heart and got out of the carriage.

The closer I got to the entrance of the cemetery, the more my spine tingled.

The strange excitement did not last very long.

My happy thoughts because of my health was gradually fading away.

As I stepped closer, one step at a time, I finally saw ‘myself’, who was lying down like an undying person in the coffin.

the mistress and the wife

[1]: pronouns are not commonly used in korean and the ‘he’ pronoun that adrienne uses here [ 그이가 ] is commonly used by women to refer to their husbands, so it shows a more formal married relationship which makes marge think the duke has established their relationship as something that might head towards marriage.

TVPWTLGH Ch 5

“Where’s the scale?”

“Peep?”

“You need to weigh how much you have to put in.”

“Peep peep!

“You can’t just measure this sort of thing with your heart, you stupid bird.”

“Peep!”

It happened when Asha had went off in search for the scale while pretending not to hear the bird’s chirping.

“What are you doing here, kid?”

A man’s gruff voice suddenly came from behind.

Asha turned around in surprise.

A fierce-looking middle-aged man, wearing a white apron, looked at her and narrowed his eyes.

“Which palace do you belong to? Just what were you doing here? There was never a kid like you in Taymyr Palace.”

She gulped as she saw the man’s sharp eyes.

Just judging by the way he was swinging a ladle around as if it were his own front yard, the man who was wearing a white apron seemed to be the head chef here.

Asha was startled, holding back her hiccups and hurriedly opening her mouth.

However…

“I’m Asha, no, Anastasia Yuriev…”

“Whether you’re Anastasia or Yuriev, even if you’re some great noble, you dare to come into my kitchen without my permission and mess around?!”

The man’s fierce roar reverberated in the kitchen as Asha gulped once again.

The man’s fierce roar reverberated in the kitchen as Asha gulped once again.

Then, her yellow bird suddenly fluttered in between the two people. The man flailed his arms around whilst the bird flapped its wings, peeping away.

“What’s wrong with this chick bastard? Ugh, what’s going on! Is this something you brought in with you too?!”

“N-No, it’s actually the one who brought me here instead of the other way around. Also it’s a chicken, not a chick bastard…”

“Urk, what were you thinking, bringing animals into a kitchen? The only birds that can come into the kitchen are either dead birds or fire birds! No, you fucking bird!”

As soon as he said that, the bird’s buzzing became even worse.

The small bird was so energetic and nimble, that even the burly middle-aged chef was helpless against it.

Asha glanced at the chef who was falling back, step by step with a pitiful expression on his face.

After the match in the middle of the night had ended, the chef who was breathing hard had a face that seemed to hint at his obvious lack of oxygen.

The bird circled around her head gracefully and settled itself on her head, as if it had not been the cause of the commotion earlier.

Asha hurriedly waved her hands in the chef’s face, whose gaze made it seem as if he wanted to catch and roast every bird alive to eat.

“I…I really didn’t bring it.”

The chef glared at Asha with a scowl on his face, fuming as he huffed.

“Then is the thing on your head not a bird but a spirit? Hurry up and get the hell out of here before I catch it steam it for a quick meal!”

Although the chef, in his moment of confusion ended up hitting the correct answer, he did not end up noticing it and Asha did not intend to inform him that he was correct.

However, at that moment, the bird suddenly proceeded to fly toward the chef once again.

Asha just stared at the second round’s match between the chef and the bird.

The chef, who was struggling with his fists in the air, seemed as if he was on the verge of passing out in frustration.

Somehow, a triumphant looking bird leaned against the cooking table and looked at the chef, who was breathing heavily, then circled above her head like before.

Asha rolled her light green eyes.

“…if you let me bake some snacks, just once, then I’ll leave quietly after that.”

“Snacks in my kitchen? No way…”

The chef, who was about to shout out a word of refusal, hurriedly shut his mouth at the birds peep.

“…just this once. But the bird has to stay calm, and you need to thoroughly clean the kitchen before going back.”

“I don’t want to come back here twice either!”

Asha replied coyly and raised her hand to point at the shelves above the cooking station.

“Then, please bring out the scales.”

Chef Pavel pursed his lips and clenched his teeth tightly together and said, “If there’s anything you’d like to make, I’ll teach you how to make it.”

But the girl, whose soft peachy looking hair was flowing down her back, her reply was really something.

“I heard that Pavel isn’t in charge of the snacks though? Do you even know how to make them?”

“…”

In the end, Asha just asked him to prepare boiled water for her. She ended up treating him as if he was an errand boy, so to speak.

Although she was less than ten years old, Asha liked to think that her impression whilst speaking was a lot smarter than expected.

“Ah…the shell fell in.”

But her fingertips were definitely less mature and dexterous.

Pavel clicked his tongue.

She had only wanted to crack an egg with her small hands, but it looked like there was a piece of the shell that had fallen inside.

“…I can at least do the eggs.”

The girl pouted her lips and gently puffed out her cheeks at Pavel’s remark.

Pavel skillfully added three more eggs with one hand.

“What are you making?”

“Hmm, something similar to a chocolate cake? Put the hot water in another bowl.”

“Chocolate? What’s chocolate?”

The girl who was already surprised when she saw the whisk at first, looking at it as if she was saying ‘What’s with this mass of tree branches?!’, then turned around with an even more shocked face.

“That’s chocolate. Does Pavel not even know what’s in his own kitchen?”

“This chestnut-sized brat…”

Pavel had a feverish look on his face, but instead of getting angry, he picked up the object that the girl had pointed at, which looked like a brick.

He knew had known what this was. However, he had forgotten this thing was in his kitchen until now.

Baron Saratov had said it was a valuable item, but it had been too bitter so it was an ingredient that had been neglected until now.

Although he had also been told that in the south, people had grinded it and drank it with sugar or honey, however, murky tea was not his cup of tea.

However, he hadn’t been able to throw it away since it had been a valuable item.

“Are you going to use this bitter thing?”

“…it tastes bitter?”

The girl opened her eyes wide in surprise. The girl’s eyes that were green like fresh saplings blinked as she cut off a little of what she had in her hand and put it in her mouth to taste.

Her face crumpled into a frown in an instant.

“Eck.”

“Look, I told you it was bitter! Haha, this is the taste of life. Do you understand now, you tiny brat?”

He threatened her as much as he could, but the girl didn’t seem to care and casually opened her mouth.

“When are you going to get me that water?”

“This brat, seriously!”

Pavel tried to squeezed his fists tightly together before swallowing a groan.

If the situation had been as usual, Pavel would not have agreed to play house like this with such a young kid.

“If it wasn’t for that damn bird or spirit…”

The yellow chick who was sitting on the girl’s shoulder was staring at him with its threatening black eyes.

However, the girl who had no clue at all what was going on continued chattering on.

“Double-boil the 220 rossos of chocolate over there and the 220 rossos of butter and…”

The girl stopped talking for a moment and turned her head away.

The place her eyes had landed on was the white jug which was currently sitting in ice water.

“With the cream too. Hmm, 50 rossos of cream should be enough.”

“Hmm, you put in equal parts of chocolate, butter, and eggs, right?”

“Correct!”

On top of that, unlike what he had thought was just an elated child playing house, the small girl who was continuously reciting a number of plausible steps to a recipe seemed to be doing better than he expected. Pavel’s curiosity was gradually piqued.

In the meantime, the girl poured the chocolate and eggs that he had double boiled and then slowly started to mix them together with a spatula.

As the mixture became thicker, the amount seemed to be too large and unmanageable for the girl’s arms.

Pavel decided to have mercy on her.

“Clean it up. I’ll do it for you.”

“No, I’ll do it. Uncle, you just bring me the dry ingredients.”

“W-Who are you calling uncle?!”

“I’d like 60 rossos of flour, but it would be better if you had cake flour instead.”

“Where are we right now, of course we have it!”

The dry flour was then added into the girl’s dough. After mixing it slowly, the girl’s thick cake batter was soon completely finished.

“Finished…ah, I forgot to preheat the oven.”

“Do you think I would ever lower the heat in my kitchen oven?”

At his proud words, the girl opened her eyes wide, running to the oven where he had pointed at.

The girl looked at the oven on the wall from all different sides and angles, then turned back to look at him.

“Wow, can I control the temperature of this too?”

The question was so innocent that Pavel faltered and hesitated for a while.

While this tiny fairy-like girl kept acting like an adult, now it was as if she had seen magic.

“How does this work? I don’t even see a hole to put the firewood in.”

“Firewood you say, are you perhaps someone who came from the Otroph era?”

The Kingdom of Otroph was a kingdom that had ruled the empire around a thousand years ago. Now, of course, it had been a long time since it had been destroyed and eradicated.

“This oven is powered by the heat from the magic stones. Using the powder of a refined magic stone as the base material, they make the wiring system…no, you understand what I’m saying, right? Anyhow, of course you can control the temperature!”

“Something like a hot wire?”

The girl muttered.

Pavel was once again flabbergasted, left wondering if she had understood what he was saying, but the girl quickly changed the subject and began to explain the mould she need to use to bake the snacks in.

Pavel pulled out five or six white pottery bowls whilst contorting his face at the confident request of the girl, giving her the bowl that was the size of an adult fist.

The amount of dough they had made was considerable, so there was still some left after filling up all six pottery bowls of the same shape.

“Pavel, you said you don’t bake snacks, right? Then do you bake bread?”

“I make everything that goes into the mouth of the Crown Prince.”

“But you don’t bake snacks.”

“That’s not my job!”

“Really? Then set the oven to the temperature for bread.”

Hearing the girl’s extremely nonsensical replies, Pavel felt that since earlier, although his pride had been slowly chipped away, piece by piece, it would be impossible to catch the young girl, who was small like a mouse.

Pavel merely controlled the baking temperature silently.

“Please put this in the oven for eight minutes!”

Although Pavel pretended to rap the child on the head, he still put the tray in the oven and set the hourglass to eight minutes.

The girl was also interested in the hourglass.

It was.

“What about this one? Is this operated by a magic stone too?”

“Of course, the grain of sand only runs for a specific amount of time, then the bell will ring when the time is up…”

“Why didn’t you put it on the oven?”

“Why do I have to put it on the oven?”

IWBMTL Ch 204

The last day of the hunting competition was dawning.

“Oh, is this my armour?”

Emperor Yovanes asked, lifting up a sparkling golden breastplate.

“Yes, Your Majesty. I have specifically prepared for you a colour that stands out.”

“Yes, yes. With this sort of colour, you’ll be able to see me, even in the middle of Madman’s Forest!”

Yovanes burst into laughter while patting me on the shoulder.

Ah, ever since then, seriously.

I slipped back while saying, “Your Majesty’s safety is our first priority.”

It will be troublesome if Yovanes gets hurt in a hunting competition that was hosted by me.

“Hahaha! You speak extremely well!”

The emperor burst into laughter once again.

“I felt like I had a thorn in my heart since I hadn’t been able to come to the hunting grounds for a long time. Now, it seems as if it’s also thanks to you that I’m able to laugh out loud!”

He then beckons to his servant to assist him with putting on the armour on his body.

As expected, the breastplate I prepared earlier fits perfectly with Emperor Yovanes’ body.

“Yes, it seems to fit extremely well. Have all the knights finished preparing?”

Emperor Yovanes asked the Commander of the Imperial Knights.

“Yes, Your Majesty. A total of ten knights, including myself, will be accompanying you, Your Majesty. “

The imperial knight, who looked fierce at first glance, approached us.

It was an appearance that reminded me of the Sushou Patriarch.

I took a quick look at that appearance, then snuck in behind and asked Yovanes.

“Your Majesty, if you don’t mind, may I join you in going to the forest as well?”

I took a quick look at that appearance, then snuck in behind and asked Yovanes.

“Your Majesty, if you don’t mind, may I join you in going to the forest as well?”

“Hmm? You, Florentia?”

The emperor widened his eyes and asked again, with an expression of surprise.

“Yes, it’s the last day of the competition, and I wanted to go into the woods at least once, but I haven’t had the chance to yet.”

“But it’s quite dangerous for a young lady to enter.”

The emperor said with troubled expression.

I knew he would say that, loading the words I had prepared earlier.

I gave a smile to Emperor Yovanes and said.

“With the strong Emperor and the capable imperial knights beside him, what safer place is there in the Empire?”

Sure enough.

The corners of the emperor’s mouth curved up and his smile became indescribably sunnier.

The expression of the stiff and stony faced imperial knights commander also twitched slightly.

“Ohoho, that’s right! Alright then, let’s head into the forest together!”

“Wow! Thank you for allowing me to do so, Your Majesty!”

I bowed my head to Emperor Yovanes and gave a small nod to the Commander of the Imperial Knights.

“…I’ll protect your safety, Lady Lombardy.”

The Commander of the Knights said in a low voice.

[ / / / ]

I knew this was going to happen.

Around an hour had passed since we had entered into Madman’s Forest.

The emperor’s party and I had met a man.

That man was Perez, who had a bow in one hand.

Although it seemed as if our paths crossing had been nothing but a coincidence.

I wasn’t sure. Was it really just a coincidence?

I had known that something like this would have happened, so I made an excuse to follow the emperor.

I had a strong feeling that whatever Perez had prepared would occur today, at the end of the hunting competition.

“Your Majesty, this place here is…”

Perez, who was about to say something to Emperor Yovanes, suddenly found me in the cluster of people and stopped talking abruptly.

He had an expression that seemed to ask me, ‘What are you doing here?’.

I smiled gave him a look that conveyed that I was just here to watch.

I just came here to sightsee.

But Perez, whose face was stiff, couldn’t take his eyes off me.

“Ah, so the Second Prince was also hunting around here.”

Eventually, Yovanes ended up being the one to bring up the coincidence first.

“…Yes, Your Majesty, since this is a place where dangerous monsters tend to come out. Why don’t I bring you to a different area?”

Perez said, turning to glance back at the Emperor and the Commander of the Knights.

“Hmm, is that so? But I thought were were still quite close to the entrance.”

“Yes, I’ll take you someplace safer.”

At Perez’s words, the emperor turned to glance back at the commander of the imperial knights.

“I’d rather do that. His Highness would know more about what happens inside the forest compared to us.”

In the end, the Emperor and I moved in succession to follow after Perez with the ten imperial knights trailing behind.

It seemed as if we were going somewhere safer near the entrance to the forest, but Perez was leading us back.

Hmm, could it possibly be this?

Then, all of a sudden, it happened.

“Kyakkk—!”

A monster with sharp claws suddenly appeared whilst letting out a strange scream.

And the one it happened to jump towards also unexpectedly happened to be the emperor.

The imperial knights quickly rushed forward in an attempt to protect the emperor.

Ping!

However, Perez’s arrow reached him first.

The arrow flew to its mark on the monster’s side, falling down in that instance.

But the monster didn’t come alone.

The next monster immediately appeared after the first had fallen.

However, the direction it came from this time was not ideal.

It was approaching from the blind spot of the imperial knights.

“Heok!”

Emperor Yovanes quickly stepped back in surprise, but it seemed as if the monster had succeeded in striking him.

“Kyakk!”

Then, right in front of him, the monster’s horrible shriek suddenly sounded.

Then, when the monster’s long claws finally reached the emperor’s breastplate.

Suddenly!

A blue light suddenly flashed, splitting the monster in half and falling to the floor.

“Ha, Ha…?”

Emperor Yovanes blinked, letting out a steady breath of relief, as if he was deflating.

Then, the emperor used both hands to fumble for his armour, tracing them.

There were long claw marks embedded in the gold armour.

“Your Majesty! Are you all right?!”

In an instant, the knights made a camp to guard the surroundings and shouted.

“I-It’s only a graze on my armour. It’s not a big deal, don’t fuss!”

Even at this moment, the emperor pretended to be strong.

Even though I could still see all his fingers trembling.

“Please wear this instead.”

Perez, who sheathed his sword and came to his side, took off what he was wearing, saying to the emperor.

“A heavily scratched armour won’t be able to hold up if it’s attacked again.”

Emperor Yovanes’ gaze at that moment immediately turned to Perez’s body, which didn’t have any armour on at all.

“Alright, I should do that.”

In the end, the red armour Perez was wearing was instead, wrapped around the emperor’s body.

At that moment, my eyes met Perez’s.

Perez’s red pupils seemed to pierce deeply into my own.

“Be careful.”

Perez said to me.

Without replying, I stared intently at Perez’s face.

It was him who had asked me to make sure that the armour I had prepared for the emperor would be gold.

“Let’s quickly head back.”

Emperor Yovanes said, much to no one’s surprise.

“It’s that way.”

Perez moved to the front and took the lead again as he said so.

And not long after, I came to realise what Perez’s plan had been all along.

“…First Prince?”

Astana appeared in front of us, who were constantly moving.

He held a sword in one hand, limping and covered in monster’s blood from head to toe.

Astana was smiling.

And then, he suddenly started running towards us.

To be exact, to the emperor who was right next to me.

“Stop!”

The commander shouted.

The knights quickly ran to defend the emperor while others ran out to stop Astana.

“Please stop!”

But Astana was too fast.

As if he was possessed by something, Astana ran out, slipping away from the knights.

It was a monstrous force.

“I’ll kill you!”

Astana, who let out a horrible shriek, closed the distance.

“Damn it.”

The commander who was at the side of the emperor, guarding him, eventually pulled out his sword.

For an imperial knight, pointing a sword at the crown prince was like their last resort.

The commander of the imperial knights clenched his teeth before clashing with Astana’s sword.

Chaeng!

As the sword was flung far away, Astana hand’s became empty.

“Your Highness, please calm down!”

Bellesac, who had abandoned his sword in front of the imperial knights and run after Astana hurriedly, shouted as he gasped for breath.

And it was at that moment.

“Die!”

Astana screamed desperately, swinging something.

Krrrk!

A scratchy noise rang clearly in my ears.

But it wasn’t the emperor’s scream that followed.

“Argh! Aaargh!”

It was Astana who was rolling frantically on the ground as if he had lost his mind, letting out a painful cry.

“My hand! Ack, it hurts! My hand!”

Astana’s right hand was gone.

Other than the red blood that gushed out endlessly, there was nothing else that was there.

“Ah, Ahhhh…”

The hand that had been cut off was at the feet of a frozen stiff Bellesac.

Which was still tightly holding onto a sharp dagger.

Whilst everyone was still frozen.

“Commander, protect His Majesty.”

Perez ordered in a low voice, looking down coldly at Astana who was still rolling on the floor.

“…Yes.”

The stiff-faced commander replied, picking up the dagger that had fallen on the floor.

Together with Astana’s hand.

Handing it over to a deputy, he said.

“Keep it safe. It’s evidence left of the emperor’s alleged assassination.”

It was the moment Astana became a sinner.

Then Perez approached me.

He reached out a hand to my face.

“Blood splattered out.”

“Ah…”

Whilst standing next to the emperor, it seems that Astana’s blood had also splattered onto me.

Perez’s hand touched my cheek.

And began carefully wiping off the dried blood on my face.

“Sorry.”

When he had cut off Astana’s hand, the unconcerned Perez had knit his eyebrows into a scowl.

“I’m sorry, Tia.”

Perez said in a low voice.

“Aaaargh!”

Astana’s scream, which was still ringing, and the voice of the commander was also heard, saying, “We have to find out what his motive was or if there was someone else behind him pulling the strings, so we have to keep him alive. “

“Ha…”

It was the voice of Emperor Yovanes, who had been forgotten for a moment.

“Haha…”

The emperor had a wry smile on his face and was stroking the armour’s red breastplate.

It was the part that had a shallow sword mark that had been made by Astana.

“In the end, like this…….”

The emperor looked at Astana, muttering words of unknown significance.

Perez also looked at Astana and spat out.

“It could be because of the magic.”

“Magic?”

“In the blood of the monsters living in Madman’s Forest flows a dark spell. It’s said that it can trigger the emergence of a man’s deepest desires. Maybe that’s why he lost his rationality and suddenly changed.”

“Desire. Desire you say.”

The eyes of the mumbling Yovanes gradually cooled down.

“Second Prince.”

Yovanes called to Perez.

And called out an imperial order.

“Escort the First Prince back to the palace.”

[ / / / ]

The emperor’s procession was returning from the hunting competition.

Empress Lavini, who had come out to the front of the palace in order to be the first to greet the emperor, was there.

Emperor Yovanes got off from the first and most luxurious carriage.

Then Perez got off the next carriage that had followed behind him.

But it was strange.

No one had gotten off Astana’s carriage.

“Your Majesty, where is the First Prince…….”

It happened just as Empress Lavini had started to ask her question.

“Mother! Mother!”

Someone at the back of the procession had suddenly burst into tears.

Empress Lavini who had just casually looked in that direction, unintentionally let out an expression of shock and horror.

“P-Prince! Prince, how come……!”

Astana, whose whole body was covered with dried and hardened blood, cried mournfully as soon as he saw the empress.

“Mother! Hnng, mother!”

Gasp!”

Then Lavini, who finally noticed Astana’s bandaged right hand, let out a silent scream.

“Your Majesty, what’s going on? How can this be…!”

But Emperor Yovanes gave no reply.

He only spoke with the tone of the empress.

“The First Prince, drag him away.”

“You can’t!”

Empress Lavini shouted, standing in front of Astana and blocking him.

“Just what king of sin did the prince commit for you to do this? Furthermore, to even injure the prince…”

“The charge is the attempted assassination of the emperor and treason.”

The Empress’ eyes widened in shock.

Emperor Yovanes answered coldly and went up the stairs.

Leaving the frozen empress all alone.

“Let me go, mother! Mother!”

Astana was dragged away, still calling for the empress.

But this time, Empress Lavini couldn’t stop them either.

“No way…there’s no way…”

Perez passed by in front of the empress who was in a state of shock, still murmuring her disbelief.

At that moment, Lavini’s blue eyes met Perez’s red ones.

“You, you…”

Passing by the empress who had begun to grasp the situation, Perez gave an order to the commander.

“Keep the sinner in prison. I’m going to interrogate him myself.”

Following behind Emperor Yovanes’ footsteps and going up the stairs, the corner of Perez’s mouth quietly twisted up into a smirk.

TVPWTLGH Ch 4

“But I miss my mom and dad more than that though.”

And whilst living as a child for ten years, the coquettish and spoiled tone of speech, which she had practiced to avoid being too suspicious shone through.

Lise smiled softly at Asha’s words.

“You miss your parents? His Highness and Her Highness…they will also arrive here soon.”

Lise said whilst stroking Asha’s head.

“Originally, I thought you would arrive with His Highness, but…”

Lise’s faint murmur faded into the background.

Asha tilted her head.

‘Huh? But how come my mom and dad said they couldn’t come?’

“Originally, I thought you would arrive with His Highness, but…”

Lise’s faint murmur faded into the background.

Asha tilted her head.

‘Huh? But how come my mom and dad said they couldn’t come?’

When Yuriel’s escapade but not an escapade had ended quickly, the attendants had advised her parents to go with her when she had boarded the carriage to go to the imperial palace.

However, Yuriel and Irina had turned down the offer with a face that seemed as if they were crying tears of blood, and sent her off to the palace alone.

‘Now I know why.’

Yuriel never intended to take even another step into the palace.

She now knew that that conviction had existed even before she was born, and had only become more established ever since then.

“If you sleep for ten nights, then you’ll be able to see them soon.”

“Ten nights?”

“No, actually, five nights! It’s already past midnight, so if you get past today, then one night has already passed.”

Then Lise folded a finger and gave her a soothing smile.

It seemed as if the longest time a child could possibly imagine was five days, and the amount of time they could wait was also around the same time.

Asha did not have the heart to say in front of such a Lise that “It took me six nights to come here, so even if my parents left home yesterday, they wouldn’t be able to come here in five.”

“You know the spirit you signed? That spirit will help you meet them.”

“Even though it’s a small bird spirit?”

“Doesn’t it have wings? Now, you should go to sleep so a night can pass, right?”

Lise gave her a cute smile and covered her with a blanket. She didn’t seem to be able to answer the question of when she would be able to return.

“I have some work to do in kitchen of the main palace for a while, so if you have a nightmare or have anything you need, just pull on this bell.”

Lise said and pointed to the thick rope by her bedside. The servants on duty in Taymyr Palace would either hear the bell or they’d call Lise.

“It’s night time but you’re going to cook?”

“No.”

Lise whispered, shaking her head as she swept a hand over Asha’s forehead.

“So far, the Empire has been at war until now, but it’s over now. That’s why we’ve been told that we’re going to have a celebration party soon, so I have to go prepare for that.”

She gave an an explanation that was easy enough for a child to understand.

“Is it a very big party?”

“Of course it is, because Karno Neustadter is also coming back from war.”

‘…Huh?’

After she finished speaking, Lise patted her blanket for a long time before finally leaving the room.

As soon as her surroundings were quiet and devoid of people, Asha immediately jumped out of bed. She couldn’t fall asleep at all.

“Karno Neustadter…”

The problem was that Asha had completely forgotten about the matter.

Since the last time she had seen this story was about a decade ago, if she was being honest, the only thing she could remember was a rough impression of the plot.

However, once I had heard his name just once, the information about Karno immediately came to mind with surprising clarity.

In the original book, when the ‘Imperial Grandchild, Anastasia’, had run wild on a rampage and had begun to threaten Alexei, obviously Alexei’s aides had not had a good impression of her.

Amongst Alexei’s aides, was Karno Neustadter, who was an impressive character in various ways.

Although he was the successor to the Neustadter family and had been sent to a battlefield before he had come of age, Karno had still given all of his military merits and achievements to Alexei, who was a close friend.

‘Since the two had been close friends ever since they were kids.’

Karno himself had the right to succeed the throne, but gave it up before his coming of age and came to support Alexei in his succession.

But what would he have done if another imperial grandchild appeared in front of him and started getting in the way of everything?

Karno acted like he was on the verge of grinding Anastasia’s bones into dust and drinking it.

Then finally, the man who kickstarted the fall by of Imperial Grandchild Anastasia, by accelerating her road to ruin like a rollercoaster with a broken rail, was that Karno Neustadter!

If you made a statue which embodied the values of benevolence, love, tenderness and magnanimity, it would probably be in his image.

And at this time, that Karno Neustadter is finally returning from the battlefield.

So they had already started preparing for the banquet. After all, it was only natural to celebrate the return of war heroes.

However, the reason why they were already going to the palace’s main kitchen to prepare was because amongst the war heroes, there was one noble who had the right to succeed the throne.

And that person was Karno Neustadter, which was the very reason why he was coming back.

‘N-No, I’m not going to meet him, even if he comes back. I’m going to go back home soon anyways!’

Asha had just wanted to bake some snacks. But baking them in this imperial palace, where you didn’t know when or how your life was going to end?

‘I’ll do it anywhere but here!’

Although her family was extremely poor, the day where they would finally be able to get butter and sugar would surely come!

Her parents were also on her side this time, so all she needed to do was stay alive.

To do so, more than anything else, she had to get out of this palace quickly.

Rustle.

Asha, who had been tossing and turning the whole night, thinking about various things, held her breath the moment she heard a sound somewhere else.

‘Did I hear wrong?’

But she soon found out that she hadn’t misheard anything.

The feathers of one of the peacocks painted in the pattern of the blanket she was using turned as yellow as a chick.

As Asha raised her body and tilted her head, and the yellow bird which had been but an embroidering on the blanket, gradually became more three-dimensional, and popped out.

“Huh?”

The bird circled above her head, then flew off the terrace and flapped its wings.

In a swoop, the chilly winter wind from outside suddenly came rushing in through the window, which was now wide open.

“H-Huh? What is it? Aren’t you my spirit…No, wait, where are you going?!”

After following the bird for a quite a long way, Asha now looked around, worrying about the way back to her room.

Inside the dark room with tiled walls which was illuminated by a dim light, the faint sound of boiling water could be heard.

Various cooking utensils were hung up on one side of the wall.

When she opened the cabinet drawer, neatly organised kitchen knives were lined up by their type as well as a few sets of cutlery appeared.

“This is the kitchen…?”

This seemed to be the palace kitchen.

It was simple for an imperial kitchen.

As she carefully went inside and looked around, the bird that she had been looking for landed right in front of her eyes and onto the counter.

“You!”

The little bird that had sprung up from her blanket was definitely her spirit, so since she thought that it would eventually return to her by itself, she decided to leave it alone and didn’t care where it went.

Nevertheless, Asha eventually followed the spirit as she wouldn’t have any excuses to tell Lise when she saw her pyjamas torn to rags.

This was because her spirit, despite looking like a chick which was only the size of her palm, pulled on her pyjamas as if it would tear her apart.

“You, stop it and let’s go back now…”

Asha, who was trying to persuade the bird that had run into the kitchen, opened her eyes wide in shock when she saw what the bird was carrying toward her.

A chick, the size of a child’s palm, was performing an act that belonged in a circus, carrying something similar to a dark brick, the size of an adult’s forearm.

‘Huh? Is this chocolate…? Just where did you get this from?’

In the meantime, the small bird kept bringing her other random things and putting them onto the counter, searching the kitchen as if it was its own house.

Unable to overcome her curiosity, Asha found a scaffolding box and stood on top of it, rummaging through the things the bird had brought to her.

“Chocolate, butter, eggs? This white powder…It’s like flour. This is sugar?”

When she dipped her finger into the fine white powder and tasted it, there was a hint of sweetness on her tongue.

A vivid sweetness flashed through her mind.

It was the same sweetness that had swirled around her at the spirit ceremony just this afternoon.

It had definitely been harvested from well-raised sugar cane, boiled and then dried to make it into this.

‘Wait, were my tastebuds always this sensitive?’

She felt as if she would be able to tell where it came from if only she had tasted a bit more.

Then, she her eyes met the black eyes of the yellow bird.

Something was popping back up in her mind…

— Mom, dad, I miss you…even if it’s the palace, it’s cold here…I want to go home…I want to eat cake…

“…don’t tell me it’s cake ingredients?!”

The bird nodded passionately as soon as it heard her words.

At the same time, Asha looked around and grabbed the bird with both hands, shaking it.

“You want me to make a cake here? When I don’t know what will happen if I get caught?!”

Even if she was the emperor’s granddaughter, just what could she do?

The emperor radiated a force so strong, it seemed as if even if he was stabbed, he wouldn’t lose even a single drop of blood. She could still see her older cousin’s smiling mouth and cold eyes, right in front of her.

In a palace with such an emperor, Asha was very reluctant to use the kitchen to her heart’s content.

In addition to that, she was also the Imperial Grandchild Anastasia, the one who in the future, would receive a monopoly of everyone’s scrutiny and hostility.

She didn’t want to do anything else that would attract attention.

“N-No. You, wait…wait a minute! Why are you crying?! Don’t cry! What did I even say…”

But at Asha’s words, the chick-like thing started crying and pouting again.

Asha was flustered at the sight and eventually ended up raising both hands up in defeat.

It wasn’t that she didn’t want to make any snacks.

Her mother taught the local children in her neighbourhood things like self-defence, and her father also raised money by painting or selling copies.

However, just maintaining an old and shabby house already cost them a considerable amount. The idea of buying a sack of sugar which was extremely expensive, was unthinkable to them.

If they had enough food to eat for the month and had extra money, it was all spent on some of Asha’s clothes and hiring musicians, so it was true to say that they really had no money to spare.

But even in such a house, she still had her parents who were waiting for her return. Asha’s desire to go home was genuine.

But it was also true that if she went back home, being able to bake snacks would also be a long way off in the future.

“Okay, I’ll make it! I said I’m making it! Hmph. If I make it and say it’s for grandpa, they couldn’t possibly blame me too much, right?”

As soon as the bird heard her, it stopped crying and burst into a clear bell-like laugh.

It was as if the bird had understood her every word.

ahhhh she’s finally started baking !! finally !!!

RMHM Ch 2 — The Suspicious Countess

I had a terrible nightmare.

One where I struggled to get out of the water, deeper than my feet could reach, but couldn’t, and eventually drowned to death.

“Have you woken up now?”

“Mmhm, mmhm.”

I stretched my tense neck. My back was still slick with sweat, as if I had just had a nightmare.

I twitched my fingers.

After having a body like porcelain, I started to twitch my fingers when I woke up in the morning. My whole body would start to hurt like it was about to break if I made any sudden movements.

“Anyways…No matter what you say, you should get up now—”

Other than Annie’s voice interrupting my thoughts from time to time, my mind was clear.

Has it ever been this good in these last few years? My head was as clear as I had always wanted it to be.

Other than a bit of cold sweat, my chest which normally seemed as if it was on fire just by breathing, seemed fine.

“Are you even listening to me?”

But was Annie’s voice always so old-fashioned?

As if my whole body was submerged in water, I shut my heavy eyelids that I had just opened a while ago.

Contrary to my clear mind, my whole body ached as if it had just been beaten.

“Lady Blair!”

“…”

All of a sudden.

“Ah!”

As I was about to fall asleep again, a tremendous force lifted my body up from the bed in an instant.

There was no smell of bitter herbs that greeted my nose every morning. Instead, all I could smell was the scent of red roses, wafting through the room.

“Annie, just why did you…”

“The Grand Duchess is dead.”

There was no smell of bitter herbs that greeted my nose every morning. Instead, all I could smell was the scent of red roses, wafting through the room.

“Annie, just why did you…”

“The Grand Duchess is dead.”

“…Annie.”

And now, I hear the voice of Annie talking to me about my death…No, wait a minute.

“Annie?”

“Just who is this Annie that you are looking for?”

The middle-aged woman’s grumbling voice was unfamiliar to me since it was a really strange voice.

Furthermore my voice, which was always stuffy due to frequent coughing, was normal.

“W-What were you saying earlier?”

“What?”

“The Grand Duchess…The Grand Duchess is dead? What grand duchess?”

Were there any other grand duchesses in this empire besides me?

It was then that I noticed the decorations in the room which I had never seen before.

Unlike my room which was all green, this room was filled with the white and pink that made me feel exhausted.

I felt the goosebumps rise all over my body in an instant.

Ignoring the bewildered woman reaching out to me, I rushed hurriedly to the mirror.

Haaa.”

A sigh of relief.

Light green eyes and golden eyelashes glistened in the sunlight.

The person in the mirror was one that I had seen enough of.

It was a little unfamiliar to me as the rosy cheeks and healthy complexion were different from my normally pale and gaunt face due to the morning fevers that I usually got.

“D-Did I collapse again yesterday?”

Normally, I couldn’t make any loud noises due to my sore throat, but somehow I felt as if I could sing today.

Hang on. Did I just get out of bed and run to the mirror by myself?

My stiff legs suddenly trembled for no reason.

“What are you talking about? You were idle all day yesterday as well, and only once the sun has well and truly risen at noon, only then do you wake up…”

“I did…?”

I was a bit dazed because of my strangely healthy and firm body, but the woman made a strange noise.

Although I was sick all day yesterday and my body was weak, did people describe it as ‘lounging’?

The middle-aged woman whom I had never seen before in my life shot me a condescending look and cleaned the bed I had just woken up in.

There was a sense of absurdity as I noticed discrepancies in everything that I saw and heard, the biggest difference being my body which remained standing without the need of anything in my hands.

“Madam.”

“…”

A servant, who should’ve respectfully called me ‘Grand Duchess’, casually entered my bedroom.

And the middle aged woman, without doing anything, just watched as he did so.

Was this not the Grand Duke’s residence, but a large hospital somewhere in the capital?

Unfortunately, these impolite actions were also the only parts that coincided with her normal situation, which she felt no sense of dissonance from.

“His Highness the Grand Duke Trovica, has asked if you would like to attend his wife’s funeral ceremony.”

“…My husband?”

Pfft.

At that moment, a burst of laughter erupted from the woman’s mouth after she had cleaned the futon.

I immediately escaped the clutches of drowsiness and completely woke up, as everything in this room approached me with a sense of absurdity, the sound of her laughter making my body stiffen as if it had been splashed by cold water.

“Well, he could be your husband now, my lady. Since Grand Duchess Trovica has now dead, wouldn’t it make some very interesting gossip if the person who took that spot next was Blair, who was her husband’s mistress?”

“G-Grand Duchess Trovica is dead?”

Only then did I flounder in the memories that rushed in like a flooding tide.

It wasn’t a nightmare.

The doors on both sides of the bedroom which had always been firmly closed were opened wide. The faces of the normally sarcastic maids turning deathly pale with fright.

The seizures that were so severe they had even Annie, who had always harassed me, run away.

Her body which was shaking so much that she hadn’t even cared about the herbal scent that was strong enough to make her nose sting.

On a snowy night, the nightmare that had come the moment I had smiled while thinking about a hot kiss with Novian.

No, rather it was reality.

The rough hands that tried to make me swallow the terrible tasting medicine that was given every time I had a seizure.

I had struggled because I couldn’t handle the water that was poured into my mouth, then not being able to breathe and my vision gradually turning white…

“Ack!”

“Ms Blair!”

“My lady!”

Mindlessly pushing aside the two pairs of hands that reached out to me, I rushed to the mirror that I was looking into earlier.

My light green eyes, glittering gold eyelashes, nose and mouth that people had praised for being beautiful.

Although everything was the same, both my name and identity were different. Just why…wait a minute.

Like a person possessed, I untied the ponytail that was tied loosely behind.

At the same time, I took off the bonnet that was on my head.

The hair that poured down my back was black like my husband’s, not my usual shiny blonde. The naturally wavy hair was thick and exuded a sensual vibe.

It was definitely my face, but it wasn’t me.

“What, What in the world…!”

Bewildered, I staggered back, leaning onto a vanity filled with cosmetics.

I reached out to a bunch of papers that caught my eye.

Rather than the ‘Empire Daily‘ which I usually read, there was ‘The Back Alley‘, a gossip magazine full of all kinds of scandals.

“Grand Duchess Trovica, why was the body found cold at dawn? The short life and scandals of the young Grand Duchess.”

“Ahh…”

I shook my head and stumbled. The strong middle aged woman clicked her tongue and held onto me firmly.

“Do you think passing out is that great?”

Adrienne Trovica. The very name of me, who died last night.

That painful and strange sensation was not a dream, but a reality.

“If you wanted to attend the funeral ceremony of the Grand Duchess, it’s only possible for you to attend in the afternoon.”

And according to the maid’s words, I was reincarnated into the body of the mistress my husband had met.

[ / / / ]

The table was set with an exorbitant amount of food.

I stared at it blankly.

None of it seemed real.

In the luxurious dining room, which must have been decorated according to the tastes of the mansion’s hostess, various types of artwork were hung all around as if they were rags.

As if she had liked things to be filled, the gaps between the frames were crammed with vases with artificial flowers the size of a human being.

It was as if I was sitting and eating in the studio of a mad artist.

Right, as long as one was sane, they’d immediately get that feeling.

The breakfast course, which started with a salad with brie cheese, only ended after a piping hot lamb stew was served in front of me.

“Is it not to your taste?”

The middle aged woman who used a huge fork to shred the lamb from the bone into the stew spoke up.

“Y-You, what’s your name?”

“…Just what kind of game are you playing at again?”

“I asked what your name was.”

The woman put down the fork she was holding and examined my face with a serious expression.

It was as if she was examining a lunatic.

“…I’m offended.”

“Have you really gone crazy?”

Oh my god.

No matter how hated I was as the hostess, to be insulting me to my face like this was crossing the line.

This ‘Blair’, who was for some reason called my husband’s mistress, was the owner of the body I had entered.

A blunt, but adequate treatment.

But this woman, who looked like a maid, wouldn’t be in a position to treat her like this.

As I was speechless at her rude treatment, she merely looked at me and clicked her tongue, calling herself ‘Marge’.

“I was locked up in my room for a few days, laughing and crying and then went into a really bad rage, then suddenly got up when you heard the news that the Grand Duchess had died, then suddenly, even your name…”

And then straight out of Marge’s mouth, “If you want to go crazy, at least go crazy gracefully.”

As soon as I heard those words come out, I lost my appetite.

If that’s the reaction I’d get just from asking one name, if I say that I’m actually the Grand Duchess Adrienne, I’ll definitely be treated like a crazy person.

I only drank a cup of cold water.

“Countess Blair Acacia.”

The servant who had entered my bedroom had called me that name, all the way until I had reached the dining room.

I had never heard of the name ‘Blair’, but I was familiar with title of Count Acacia, a name I often heard.

Count Acacia was a vassal of our Grand Duchy, but did not hold an important position in the center.

He was old enough to have grey hair, so even if he died right now, it wouldn’t be regarded as a suspicious death.

She seemed pitiful as she was part of a lowly household, stuck running errands for her husband’s estate.

I was told he had a young and beautiful wife, but since I was ill at the time, I couldn’t attend their wedding.

Of course, there was no way a person who had the standing of a grand duchess could attend the wedding ceremony of a humble vassal household, even if they were vassals.

There is no way I would have dared to covet the wife of the master I serve, and live in search of a woman who looked like this.

I had seen his face many times, but he was the one who did not look up at me, the Grand Duchess, but instead kept his eyes lowered.

After all, after my marriage, I was only able to attend one of two parties due to my weakened body, so it was difficult for me to recognise the face of not only the Count but also any other nobleman.

‘Although it’s a coincidence, I feel very uncomfortable.’

Other than the colour of her hair and her temperament, this woman was a complete carbon copy of me.

Although the appearance of a woman can be changed by a feather hat over her head or the colour of her lips…How is it possible for me not know of a woman who resembles me this much, and who has a face I so often see in the mirror?

“You’re eating well.”

As I continuously put food into my mouth while thinking, Marge smiled and continued to hold out the plate of food.

Despite her blunt words, she didn’t seem like a bad person.

Was she someone like a nanny from Blair’s family? Ah, that seemed to be the case…

‘I wonder how much it costs to eat with my own hands…?’

Blair’s body seemed very hungry so there also never seemed to be a sense of fullness.

I had been shovelling food into my mouth as if I was a starving person who hadn’t eaten for several days.

It wasn’t wrong though.

Due to the childish bullying I had experienced in the Grand Duke’s residence, it had been a long time since I had eaten proper food.

Munch, munch.

At first, I had been distracted by the different surroundings and strange place around me and had eaten the food robotically, but at some point in time, eating with my own hands had become so intriguing that I had no choice but to keep eating.

Although Blair’s hands were just as pale and slender as mine, they possessed a completely different amount of strength.

Even though my body still ached, compared to my previous body, this was a ‘healthiness that I would never see again’.

“Excuse me, madam. What should I tell His Grace…?”

The servant who was sent from the Grand Duke’s residence stood by the dining table restlessly.

Waiting for my answer.

Waiting for my answer to ‘whether I was going to attend the funeral ceremony of Grand Duchess Adrienne’.

Is this ‘Blair’, really my husband’s secret mistress?

TSRBRBP Ch 1

When I opened my eyes, all I saw was darkness. The soft sound of shoes trudging through the soil greeted me when I raised my ears.

I stretched out my foot and tapped the wall in front of me. The rough feeling of woven straw greeted the soles of my feet.

“No way, am I in a basket right now?’

Seeing as my body would shake even whilst staying still, it seemed as if I was in the basket that I used to when I occasionally went out.

I wonder where they’re taking me. As if to answer my question, a voice that I had never heard before suddenly spoke.

“If we walk a little further, we’ll be in the black panther’s territory.”

“Let’s deal with it quickly. By the way, how come she hasn’t even turned into a human after she had her coming of age ceremony? Is that even possible?”

I, who had keen hearing, quickly found out that I was the subject of their conversation.

Right, it’s truly mysterious. I’m definitely a legitimate shapeshifter, but why haven’t I changed my appearance, which was that of a baby rabbit yet?

“Let’s deal with it quickly. By the way, how come she hasn’t even turned into a human after she had her coming of age ceremony? Is that even possible?”

I, who had keen hearing, quickly found out that I was the subject of their conversation.

Right, it’s truly mysterious. I’m definitely a legitimate shapeshifter, but why haven’t I changed my appearance, which was that of a baby rabbit yet?

Every time my mother saw me, she was always irritated and angry. With her fine brows knitted tightly together, ‘Just why have you not turned into a human being yet? Your sibling, Kylie, has already become a full-fledged shapeshifter. Everyone else turns into a human within three years from birth, why are you…!’

She screamed loudly enough for my ears to ring. Sometimes, if she was outraged, she would punish me by not allowing me to step out of my room.

It was a struggle to even open the door on my own without a maid in the first place.

I couldn’t go out without being punished. My mother and father were ashamed of me.

The Levian Household.

My family, the Levian household, was a distinguished noble family in the rabbit territory.

My mother is Eivan Levian, my father’s third wife, and the eldest was me, who was frustrated at how I couldn’t turn into a human being.

Thankfully, my younger brother, Kylie, had already succeeded in turning into a human in less than three years after he was born. At that time, although I was already five, I still remained in the form of a baby rabbit.

Shapeshifters, on average, achieves their human form before their third birthdays, why was I still…?

Although everyone wondered, frustratingly, no one knew the reason.

I’ll be able to shift tomorrow, I’ll be able to shift the next day, I’ll be able to shift after a week. Time flew by in the face of my empty expectations.

Eventually, last month, despite the passing of my coming of age ceremony, I still did not succeed in shifting.

When I went to the temple reluctantly with my mother, the priest shouted that this was a curse from the Animal God. His voice was so loud that my heart had started pounding.

“Hey, isn’t this a bit too far from the territory’s border?”

“There’s no choice but to go this deep into the forest. …After all, the order was for her to die at the hands of the black panthers.”

“Take the grass over there and take it back for proof. It’s a poisonous weed that’s only grown on the black panther’s territory.”

Whilst listening to the conversation, I immediately realised that I had been abandoned. I had a feeling that I would be.

After coming back from the temple, the way my parents looked at me had changed from irritation to contempt. I also heard them murmuring about how it was embarrassing for them to kill me.

“Hey look, I’m pretty sure we’ve gone too deep. If we cross the border, we’ll no longer receive the protection of the territory.”

I could feel the basket touch the floor with the man’s anxious urging.

“Calm down, I was thinking of leaving it somewhere around here, anyways.”

Since this was the black panther’s territory, it was clear that this was a forest that was bordering the rabbit’s territory. A place which was most likely crawling with black panthers.

No, please don’t leave me in a place like this. I’ll try my best to become a good shapeshifter, so don’t leave me here!

I clawed at the straw desperately to no end, but I couldn’t even reach the lid. My vision was blurred due to my tears and my eyes became swollen.

“Aaargh!”

“Urk!”

Suddenly, at that moment, I heard a loud scream that nearly made me faint. I stopped scratching the basket and instinctively held my breath.

My whole body was on edge. If this was really the territory of the Black Panthers, then the shapeshifters who moved me might have already been hunted by the Black Panthers. Should I pretend to be dead?

Soon after, the basket began to shake and the lid opened. A bright light suddenly spilled in as I closed my eyes.

Before I knew anything, I was caught by the nape of my neck and lifted into the air.

“A baby rabbit?”

Somewhere, a slow voice rang. It was a clear yet nice-sounding, low-pitched voice.

When I opened my eyes, there was a surprisingly pretty man in front of me.

He had silver hair that looked like silver thread pouring in front of his face. After adjusting to the brightness for a moment, I began to struggle desperately in order to survive.

‘B-Black panther!’

The black panther clan. I’ve only imagined it, but the tooth in front of me must have been a puk leopard.

Didn’t their red eyes make you feel uneasy?’

‘They did. I saw a family of black panthers in the city last time, and their eyes were just creepy.’

When the servants had kicked up a fuss, they had said that most of the Black Panther clan had red eyes.

The man had distinct red eyes as well as shining fangs that peaked out from between his lips.

Since this was the Black Panther’s territory, there was a higher possibility that the men belonged to the Black Panther clan.

‘Let me go, I said let me go!’

As I shook my front foot desperately, I suddenly stopped moving when I felt the chilly mood. The expression of the uninterested man gave off a cold feeling.

“He might capture me and eat me.’

Looking at me as I was frozen still, he smiled, his eyes folding into a half moon shape. Somehow, it looked like a smile of satisfaction.

“Are you crying?”

Is this your first time seeing someone cry? I probably started when I first came to my senses in the basket.

I wanted to pretend like nothing happened, but I felt stuffy, as if something was stuck in my throat.

But at the man’s next words, I couldn’t help but stop crying.

“Cry more.”

Oh my god, this guy must be crazy!

[ / / / ]

Afterwards, the man stuffed me in his pocket like a thug and moved somewhere else.

While he was moving, I was stunned by his rough handling.

When I came to my senses, I saw a dazzling bedroom which I had never seen before in the Levian mansion.

‘…Where am I?’

Running around on the fluffy bedding, I felt despair and hopelessness.

I didn’t have enough courage to jump off the bed. But I had to escape from here.

Before I came to my senses, just before I was stuffed into the man’s pocket, I saw something I shouldn’t have seen.

A scene where my head would roll onto the floor.

And on the other hand, the state of the man with a sword covered in red blood.

It was obvious that he was the culprit who had killed the two men moving me.

The maids of the Levian family had said that the Black Panthers of the territory next to us were all impatient and vicious.

Why did that man bring me here when I should have died on the spot?

Wracking my small brain, I could only reach one terrible conclusion. My appearance of a baby rabbit was not even emergency food, but an emergency snack.

“No way!”

I screamed and struck the bed with my front foot.

No, no way. I refuse to think about ending up on a plate in a strange place like this.

“Now’s the only time I can escape.’

With my eyes glistening, I began to bounce back on my hind legs. I had to jump off, even if I had to suffer a broken bone.

‘…Here I go!’

I’m jumping! I’m really going to jump!

I, who had leaped off the bed with a determined expression, was momentarily caught in someone’s hand.

Please don’t tell me you’re the black panther from the woods. As I shifted my gaze stiffly, a man with dark black hair looked at me anxiously.

“That could have been a disaster. I can’t believe you’re being so reckless.”

Fortunately or unfortunately, the owner of the snatching hand was not the rude black panther from before.

The strange thing was that, contrary to his neat impression and speech, his facial expression and voice were both rather monotonous.

As soon as I was relaxed by that odd irony, I swallowed a wary sigh again.

Don’t let your guard down. Every time this man talks, his fangs are so distinct that my whole body starts to tremble again.

Moreover, it was true that the most black panthers had red eyes, and this guy’s pupils were also tinged with red.

“Master Ahin too, really. Throwing this little rabbit onto the bed. Anyways, this is the first time I’ve seen you before. Where did you come from?”

There was no way I could have answered, even if you asked. I’m from the rabbit territory! I said rabbit territory! Unfortunately, my inner cry did not reach the man.

“I see, you can’t speak…”

That’s not something you should say with such surprise. You’re a bit slow, aren’t you? Let go! I swore acrimoniously inside, but the man didn’t seem to have any intention of letting me down.

“The floor would be safer than the bed.”

After walking to the sofa in the room, he picked up a fluffy cushion and put it on the floor.

“Ms Rabbit, whilst you’re here, you shouldn’t hurt yourself carelessly. After all, you’re Master Ahin’s possession now.”

The man who laid me down carefully onto the cushion explained seriously with a flick of his finger.

‘Please explain in detail.’

What’s with the weird title of ‘Ms Rabbit’? And what do you mean by his ‘possession’? I patted the cushion with my front foot.

He managed to understand me, but just stroked my head gently with his index finger.

“Also, you must maintain a clean body at all times.”

Cleanliness? I gazed up at him, puzzled.

Still, I had obtained some information from the man’s actions and words.

The man in front of me was a servant of the black panther who had carried me in his pocket, and the repeated title of Ahin seemed to be his name.

‘Tell me more.’

The more information, the better.

In my eyes, the lips of the man who had patted my head with a friendly touch opened.

“Since Master Ahin brought Ms Rabbit into the bedroom himself, I think you’re special!”

“Special?”

“As an emergency food supply, perhaps.”

…Indeed, it’s just as you’ve said. A gurgle left my mouth again as I fell into a dead faint.

TVPWTLGH Ch 3

In the original novel, the Imperial Grandchild, Anastasia made a contract with the Bird Spirit. The reason she was able to remain in the imperial palace despite only possessing a Bird Spirit was because that Bird Spirit had a breathtakingly beautiful solid body.

‘I… am Anastasia, but I’m not that Anastasia, right? So won’t my spirit also be a different spirit…? The one that will appear to me will make sense, right? Right?’

Although her collar was drenched, her teeth involuntarily started chattering, and she was freezing to the bone, Asha still patiently clasped her hands together.

She was told that if you continued to patiently do this, a spirit would appear…

“Mom, Dad, I miss you… Even if it’s the palace, it’s cold here… I want to go home… I want to eat cake…”

But now that I’m in the palace, I want to have a cup of hot cocoa. With grilled marshmallows. A fondant au chocolat would be nice too, with a sprinkle of white sugar, like snow on top.

Anything is fine, I just want this to end quickly so I can go back home. I’m going go to back home with sugar, butter, and a bag of flour to celebrate!

It happened when Asha had closed her eyes and her internal prayers were approaching their peak.

“Huh…?”

At the sound of something that seemed to be flying, Asha opened her eyes without realising it. There was a white powder fluttering around her. She tasted the white powder with an outstretched tongue.

“Sugar…”

As soon as Asha recognised the sweetness of sugar, the white powder in front of her started to spiral, and a bright light started to gather together in it.

As soon as Asha recognised the sweetness of sugar, the white powder in front of her started to spiral, and a bright light started to gather together in it.

At that moment, she heard something like the flapping of wings from the bundle of light, and contrary to the sugar which was pure white, a large winged bird with all kinds of beautiful colours suddenly appeared..

The bird circled around her once, and sat in front of her.

It was such a big bird that she still had to look up while she was on her knees.

Even though it had folded its wings, it still seemed to fill the entire room.

“Uh…”

The colourful bird tilted its head and looked down at her.

This was the main culprit behind that ‘Imperial Grandchild, Anastasia’s’ wild and ambitious dream.

At the same time, she came to her senses.

A spirit with a physical body was usually so small it could be held in a hand. And yet, here was a bird, big enough to fill the room.

I can’t believe this is happening.

I can’t believe this is also happening to me!

“N-No!”

Asha raced to the floor, standing up and splashing in the pool in order to run to the bird.

None of her cousins earlier had signed with a spirit who had a physical body.

If she went out with the bird looking like this, no matter how much she insisted, she would definitely be forced to stay in the palace.

Then, it was clear that she would be on the receiving end of Alexei’s checks, which would ultimately lead to her downfall.

But before Asha could say anything, there was a popping sound, which then quickly transformed into a yellow feathered bird, only around the size of a palm.

Peep!”

“W-What?”

Asha, who had been running, stopped and just blinked. The bird looked around in embarrassment at its own appearance and tried to straighten itself when it made eye contact with Asha.

Although it was still the size of a kid’s fist.

However, Asha urgently shook her head when she saw its appearance.

“Y-You’re really cute already, but can you turn into something even smaller? Uh… Oh…! Okay, how about this! Turn into a brooch or something like that!”

Asha grabbed the cameo on a ribbon from her chest and shook it with both hands.

The chick tilted its head once, then disappeared from in front of her eyes.

“…!”

It was not long before the engraving of the person on the cameo changed into a very small but sophisticated and beautiful silhouette of a bird.

Asha just blinked in surprise, but soon decided to accept the transformation of the spirit.

First off, she had to go out now.

When Asha left the room shivering from the cold that had belatedly hit her, seeing that there wasn’t even a shadow of a spirit, everyone laughed at her, saying, “Of course it’s like that.”

“…Your Highness Anastasia, do you happen to know what kind of spirit you signed a contract with?”

Asha shook her head when she was asked by an approaching elder. She intended to pretend as if she didn’t know anything.

“Then, are you able to use your power?”

Asha shook her head at the question, too.

Baking snacks? Of course it’s good, but not in the palace, a place where you don’t know what will happen if you take a wrong step.

However…

“Then let me ask the Marquis of Serenetev for advice.”

“What?”

Asha opened her eyes wide.

Before she could grasp the situation, the words were already delivered quickly, and before long, someone swinging their arms had already come.

She heard people whispering names such as “His Highness Prince Maxim” and “His Highness Maxim”.

The territory and title received by Prince Maxim appeared to be Marquis Serenetev.

“Oh, the person who dad called Brother Maxim…”

Come to think of it, that was the case.

Her father, Yuriel, was a prince, so Maxim, whom he called a brother, was naturally also a prince.

“Oh, Father…”

Arriving in the middle of the Statten Palace, Maxim looked down at his frozen son and laughed at him.

“Dimitri, you signed a contract with the Rainwater Spirit? Does this mean our Empire won’t need to worry about droughts from now on?”

The man said so, laughed to himself, and then coughed when he noticed the servants and elders around him.

“So what, you want me to identify my little niece’s spirit?”

“…Yes, Sir Serenetev.”

Maxim, who is Yuriel’s brother, and her uncle, was the only member of the royal family who was not subject to the spirit ceremony thanks to the “Spirit of Discretion” he had signed on as a child.

It was for the moments like this, when the elders of the Imperial Palace could not identify what kind of spirit one had.

‘What… What should I do?’

I should’ve just said I had a little bird from the start!

Whilst Asha was flustered, Maxim stopped laughing and put his hand gently on the top of her head, closing his eyes.

As soon as the surrounding people started buzzing noisily and Asha’s face turned pale, Maxim put his hand down and laughed mischievously at her, as if he was looking at something cute.

“You have a cute bird spirit that goes quite well with our little princess.”

‘Huh?’

“P-Pardon?”

Maxim frowned when the attendant standing next to him spoke in a puzzled voice, behaving as if he had mocked Asha.

“Didn’t I say our Imperial Grandchild, Her Highness Asha has signed a contract with the Small Bird Spirit?!”

“Oh, yes, yes. Her Highness Anastasia has been blessed by a bird spirit!”

The final round of applause to celebrate her spirit was the smallest one so far.

Asha looked up at Maxim, trying to calm her heart that felt like it was going to collapse and her legs which had suddenly lost their strength.

“What’s going on here?’

A little bird spirit? Was it even impossible for Maxim, who possessed the Spirit of Discretion, to find out the spirit’s extent of power?

“If that’s not the case…’

However, she had successfully avoided the eyes of others.

Asha quietly breathed out a sigh of relief inside.

Suddenly, the Emperor, who was looking down from up above, strode down and began to talk to each child face-to-face.

‘What the hell is going on here again?’

The conversation with the Emperor was simple. What did your father and mother say, what are you going to do in the future? At first glance, these were private conversations.

Asha swallowed nervously with her dry throat. Although she knew there was such a scene, she didn’t know how to handle it at all.

The details of the villain’s backstory were very elaborate, and although she believed that she had read it accurately, even if she did, she still could not remember a damn thing from before.

‘If it was all written down, it wouldn’t be a novel, but a history book instead!’

Whilst the children were stuttering in order to answer the emperor’s questions, the Emperor finally stood next to Asha.

Asha clenched her collar tightly. After taking a long look at her without speaking, the Emperor frowned at her.

“Well, how old did you say you were again?”

“She’s ten years old.”

Before Asha could open her mouth, the old servant next to the Emperor replied for her.

“Ten? Then how is she this small and skinny? I would believe you even if you said you were six. Does Yuriel not care about his daughter? That’s probably the case, taking into account that bastard’s personality, .”

“Your Majesty, it’s not that…”

The old servant insisted, whispering to the Emperor with his back bent.

Asha could guess what he was saying.

It would have been about how a penniless runaway from home would start a family.

The Emperor listened to his whispering servant and tilted his head. There was no expression on his face at seeing his granddaughter for the first time.

“Hmm, alright. What did your father say to you when he sent you off?”

“…To not get sick, stay healthy, and to come back soon.”

“Go back? Hmm…”

I could feel the gazes of my cousins who were standing next to me. Asha wiped her sweaty palms on her lapels nervously. The Emperor looked interested.

“Then, do you also want to go back?”

“Yes!”

Asha answered the question without hesitation.

I don’t have any interest in things like the throne! However, I’d actually like a little flour, sugar and butter, thanks!

The word ‘yes’ was about to spill out of Asha’s mouth.

The Emperor smiled as he crinkled the fine lines around his eyes.

“That’s right, that’s what I’m saying.”

Then the Emperor turned away without any additional words.

Asha thought that his attitude of leaving only after saying what he had to say was definitely one of the reasons why her dad would always swear at him.

That’s how the spirit ceremony ended. The children began to leave the palace, with no one pleased.

However, despite the end of the spirit ceremony, no one in the palace told them about what would happen to Asha in the future.

Asha was drenched in anxiety. She made it clear that she wanted to go back, and that even the spirit she had signed with was insignificant, so why…

“Lise, I’ve even finished the spirit ceremony now. When can I go home?”

At Asha’s question, her maid, Lise, looked at the bed with a puzzled look.

Lise was the one who had cared for her since she was first kidnapped to the palace.

At first, Asha was ignorant and tried to treat all the adults around her with respect and spoke formally, but it was closer to harassment than respect so she spoke comfortably in private with them.

“But Your Highness, if you stay here, you can eat as much delicious snacks as you want and wear a lot of pretty clothes.”
